Every morning, 365 days a year, the day begins at 7 a.m. Whether it’s frigid cold or steamy hot, every dog cage needs to be hosed down, cleaned out and make sure all 180 dogs get fresh water. No sleeping in for those who are responsible as animals depend on them every day of the year, and no salary, just a passion for saving homeless and sick dogs!
It is our dream to one day be able to afford a permanent full-time helper at the shelter. Truth be told, we will probably need 2 or 3 helpers, to be honest, because we now have more than 180 dogs who need a healthy, safe and clean environment, health monitoring, socializing, medicating, and feeding. That's a lot.
Plus, we will need to find somebody with passion and affection for animals, genuine concern for their wellbeing, knowledge of their behavior, and always treat them with patience regardless of the situation and circumstances.
We will need people with the physical ability to work extended working hours outside and in varying weather conditions. Someone who can walk and/or stand on their feet throughout a typical workday, carry at least 20 kg regularly throughout a typical workday (a standard bag of food), and be prepared to perform essential maintenance and repair work. There will be a bit more work on the weekends, because of the visitors.
Right now, we cannot afford permanent help for Robert, but he needs it.
It's Christmas time, and we are asking all of you to make a small donation towards a helper for Robert. People do not usually think about all this hard routine physical work, which is not seen, and are more likely to donate towards expenses directly related to dogs, like food or vet bills. Thus, our "General Expenses" fund remains underfunded. Please think about humans at the shelter this Christmas as well. We would highly appreciate any amount donated towards Robert's helper. We hope this present will make Robert's Christmas a little warmer and more relaxed.
