Fundraising for Rebecca’s medical volunteering in Ghana

Hi everyone! I’m planning on volunteering for a two month medical elective in Ghana in July 2020 to help with underfunded and under resourced communities and hospitals.

Hospitals in Ghana are often overcrowded and lack in facilities that are common to western hospitals. The large majority of hospitals are also located in urban areas and so many Ghanaians living in rural areas do not have access to modern healthcare due to not being able to afford health insurance and travel costs. Currently in Ghana there is one doctor to abround 8000 patients which is far below the WHO guidelines of one doctor to 1320 patients and so many are getting a very low standard of heathcare.

I am currently a student at the University of Nottingham studying medical physiology and therapeutics and am hoping to go on to study graduate medicine. I am hoping this trip will give me the opportunity to see a different side to healthcare in less developed countries and allow me to positively impact the lives of some of the people who aren’t as lucky as I am in receiving healthcare as and when I need it.

All funds that are generated through this page will contribute towards my living expenses during my time there as well as my airfare and vaccination procedures. I am also hoping to raise money to take over supplies for the local school and children’s orphanage but would be very grateful for any items that could be donated.

Although I may not be able to thank everyone individually, I would be extremely grateful for any donations big or small - it would mean an awful lot to me. Thank you
