Fundraising for procuring Motorized wheelchair

Suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, unemployed and hiring a helper for caregiver needs. I need to get a new motorized wheelchair with headrest and lateral support, as the current wheelchair is not in good working condition and is not giving enough support for my seating.

The total cost of the motorized wheelchair including the supports round up to about $20k. We managed to get subsidies for 60% of the total cost. However, we still need to co-pay around $8k, which is well beyond our means as we are struggling with the helper's salary and other commitments like housing loan and utilities bill.

I and my social worker are looking at other possible means of funding for the wheelchair. when asked about how much I can afford to co-pay I thought even a thousand is a bit too much.
