fundraising for Johnnel’s cochlear implant surgery

I am Jovelyn and he is my loving husband Johnnel Bugas, 30 yrs. of age. It was February 2017 when he experienced symptoms, such as discharge from his ear and gradual hearing loss. It was diagnosed with acute otitis media, which affects his eardrum. The infection on his eardrum started in his left ear that was treated with the common ear drops and other antibacterial medicines prescribed by his 1st doctor. Even with the said treatment, the infection continued to spread and reaches to his right ear. It only took 4 months that his ear drum was damaged and could no longer hear on both ears. It was then diagnosed with chronic suppurative otitis media. We tried CT-Scan, biopsy, acid fast bascili and other lab test but all of which resulted with no findings. The ear specialist considered the case extremely rare and no one can provide an accurate diagnosis. However without scientific/lab results to support, 2 specialist recommended the treatment for TB as his ear infection closely correlates to TB otitis media. Without any options left, we took a shot and tried the treatment for TB. After 6 months of straight medication, the result shows an improvement to his infected ear drum but hearing test results did not even improve. Hearing aids are not applicable in his condition since it is a bilateral profound hearing loss.

Recently, we went to Davao City to make follow-up consultations with an ear specialist. We were advised to undergo cochlear implant surgery. Excluding doctor's fee and medical expenses, the device itself would roughly cost P680,000.00 per ear. It would be then more or less a million peso per ear cost of surgery. Right now, we are still looking for financial assistance in purchasing a single device and at the same time defraying the cost of the surgery even just for one ear. We humbly ask for help financially, any amount will be much appreciated. Even with just one ear, i cannot imagine the look on his face just to hear the noise, to do the job he loves and to hear the sweet voice of our kids .
