After my 5th trip to Ghana, a country that has become my second home, I decided to set up a charity of my own. Send A Smile was born in October last year, with myself and a Ghanaian Doctor as the organisers. In February 2014, I returned to Ghana to begin our projects.  We are currently setting up children's recreational areas in hospitals (our first one was Cape Coast Regional Hospital). These are low-cost projects, that make a real difference to children staying in the pediatric units. Normally, they lie, alone, in unwelcoming, dingy hospital rooms. Now, these children will have the chance to interact with other children; to play with toys they may never have seen before; to forget for a little while where they are and most importantly, to be children. In some areas, we will also install whiteboards, so that children will be able to access education, if they are in hospital for a long duration. All toys, games, books and so forth were collected by myself, from generous donors, but there are costs such as the whiteboards, paint, mosquito netting, burgular proofing which is why we are fundraising. In June, I am running 4k (which believe me, for someone as unfit as me, is a huge challenge!) Please sponsor me (and the others who are getting involved) to do this! YOU will be putting lots of smiles on  little faces in Ghana..
