We are, along with using the gogetfunding website, holding a silent auction Fundraising Event at Aurora Hotel on April 5th, 2014!!
Ed has NO idea we are doing ANY this - and won't - until the fundraiser is over. Those of you who know him well know that he is a very sweet, kind hearted, generous, caring man, with a lot of pride & would never ask for help - SO we are asking for him!
We are taking donations from local businesses to be silent auctioned off where we can enjoy snacks and drinks as well as record individual "get well videos" to keep him motivated while on the mend!
For those of you not aware of the seriousness of what he has been through this new year, he was diagnosed with pneumonia as well as H1N1. He was in an induced coma for a good 4.5 weeks. He was then heavily sedated for another 2 weeks. Ed has also had 3 minor heart attacks since his arrival in the Grande Prairie ICU. He is still very sick, but is slowly making progress every day! He has lost almost all of his muscle mass while being bed ridden for over 7 weeks and is having to re-learn to use all of his muscles for just sitting up or moving his legs and arms.
He has just made the trip to Edmonton to have an angiogram done on his heart, just to make sure he hasn't incurred any extensive damage after the 3 minor heart attacks. We are awaiting results on that. Doctors have recently done an ultrasound and found that he also has a very large aneurism in his aorta. He will more than likely need surgery for it as soon as he gets stronger (surgeons call), otherwise it runs a risk of bursting and there will be nothing medicine would be able to do for him at that point. We haven't told him about the aneurism yet- we need him to stay positive and on the fast track to getting his strength back and getting well and feel if he would currently know about the possible surgery he may not fight as hard to get better.
We get a lot of calls, facebook messages, and texts as to how he is doing and how you all can help! We know he will be getting a slow start and ALL proceeds from this fundraiser will help in sustaining him while he fully re-cooperates! Although still unsure of what his situation will be like once recovered, we are wanting to make sure all bases are covered, and that he has the funds available for a possible: home care nurse (avg $19/hr every day a week), extra medications, lifeline program, heart attack service dog (can be $5 - $10,000), oxygen tanks, physio therapy ($65-$95 per treatment) , and every day bills (utilities, groceries, etc). We are expecting onwards of approximately $10,000 in donations to cover most of the bills that will occur.
We are still unsure of what his situation will be like once released but we are wanting to make sure all bases are covered, and that he has the funds available for:
-home care nurse
-service dog (looking into getting this for him)
-every day bills (utilities, groceries, etc)
We are expecting to raise onwards of approximately $10,000 to cover any of these bills that may occur.
