A week a go, I visited nabwel community ,an area where water scarcity is a problem that has persisted for a long time in Kenya.I was met by unusual quietness of the surroundings, one might think the entire villages had migrated elsewhere as it looked deserted.Homesteads were closed and I couldn't see anyone in sight because women and children had already gone and walked long distances to look for their most precious commodity,which in this case, is water from dry river beds.All these is because their only existing water pump broke down and no one among the community members had the knowledge and the expertise to repair and maintain it.

Due to the nature of the community ,being pastoralists,water consumption is high as their only source is heavily relied upon by livestock and the people for drinking .This kind of pressure on a single water pump led to its breakdown.

As a result of the problems experienced by the community , there was need to do something to save the women and children from the suffering of having to walk long distances under the scorching sun to fetch water from dry river beds.Water from this source was regarded unsafe for drinking as it was associated with cases of illnesses affecting the community such as diarrhoea and typhoid among others. Am reaching out for donations to help me solve this problem.

Am seeking for support for repair of existing community water hand pump /borehole, drilling of a new borehole reduce overcrowding of people on existing one, installation of solar panels on both boreholes instead of hand pump and training of community water committees on repair and maintance of water pumps.

My goals are to ensure that;

- Faulty community water hand pump is repaired and functioning as intended to enable steady supply clean drinking water.

- New borehole is drilled to reduce straining of repaired one,ease congestion, to reduce cases of large crowds of community members competing to fetch water from one source.

- Solar panels as well as solar powered pumps are installed to replace manual pumps which often exhaust residents.

- Community water users committees are fully trained with knowledge and expertise to repair and maintain broken water pump and general management of community water resources.

How Will the money be used?

Am looking for a total of $10,000 USD.Here is a specific breakdown of how the money will be used;

1.Repair existing community borehole -$500

2.Drilling of new community borehole - $3300

3.purchase and Installation of solar panels on each borehole -$2500

4.Transportation - $400

5.Facilitators stipend - $400

6.Purchase of stationery materials for Training community water users committees on repair and maintance of water hand pumps -$300

7.Meals and refreshments for the committees training -$300

8.Follow up trainings -$1000

9.Monitoring, evaluation and learning -$1300

How can you help?

Each donation is capable of making change by ending the suffering of women and children walking long distances under the hot sun looking for water. I understand that not everyone may be in a position to assist monetarily, but I can truly appreciate if you could help me share this campaign and spread the word of this important cause!
