PROJECT DISCRIPTION

  • Title; Fundraising 500,000$ for school block construction and class room furniture supply at Chikwawa primary school in Rumphi district in Malawi.
  • Location; Chikwawa primary school is situated in Rumphi district, Northern region of Malawi, near Lunyina river, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chikulamayembe.

  • problem analysis;
  • Poor and insufficient school blocks: the old school blocks is putting learners lives at a risk because the building may collapse over learners, previous rainy season for example, the standard 3 class building collapsed on 15th January, 2020, lucky enough it was at night so it didn’t caused any harm to learners. Due to insufficient school blocks; standard 1, 2 and 3 classes are used to be achieved under trees, which are usually shifted to afternoon hours when it comes to rainy season. This shifting of classes is severely reducing normal learning hours of all classes and increase workload for teachers. This simply means that teachers are unable to complete syllabus and learners’ performance is greatly reduced. Reduced learners performance in class is largely contributing to their school dropouts. The standard 1 to 7 classes have no seats at all which negatively affect learners’ participations during classes.
  • Poor and insufficient classroom furniture (desks and chairs): School furniture is an active factor that is too often neglected considering the fact that it plays an important role in the effectiveness of learners. Besides the importance of classroom furniture only standard 8 classes have 22 desks at Chikwawa primary school.

  • prosed solution;

DAMRA in collaboration with the community itself will work hand in hand to construct 5 school blocks and supply classroom furniture at chikwawa primary school in Rumphi district in Malawi.
