Meet our eco-friendly community in Malapascua island.
We're raising money for the local kids, find out more and join our cause!
Malapascua is a small island in the Philippines that attracts local and foreign tourists; especially divers, because of it's rich marine sanctuary and thresher sharks. The island took a direct hit from Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, which tore off every roof on the island. Since then the locals have been busy repairing the damage. Some of the villagers now live in tightly packed shanty settlements, where the poverty is all too striking.
The community was created in October 2018 by travellers & locals who want to exchange their experience & share knowledge. The island itself is unique with a special spirit, you could say magic. Many of us travelling here have extended our stay, sometimes even for months because it feels like home, we've found family. This is why we care about the future of the kids who visit us daily, always so open hearted and smiling - they're presence makes this place so special.
WHAT WE DO:
Estelle and Mar organise activities for the local children every single day of the week - art classes, games, music and dancing lessons. They also have a special "kids zone" in Neverland where they are free to come whenever they want. Travellers also offer to teach their languages which allows the kids to grow and connect with everyone around them in life.
By the end of the day before sunset the communtity gathers for beach clean ups. The children are always welcome and encouraged to join so they can gain awareness of issues such as; pollution, keeping the beaches clean for the benefit of their island, the right seperation of the rubbish and simply using bins and not contributing to the damage.
We are raising money for school supplies and most of all hygiene products such as shampoos, womens sanitary neccesities, treatments for head lice, toothbrushes, medication for paracites and bacteria. The average salary per day in Malapascua is 200 pesos (4 dollars). This is why EVEN THE SMALLEST DONATION CAN HAVE A HUGE IMPACT!
DONATE NOW AND HELP US SUPPORT THE LOCAL PEOPLE AND MAKE A LASTING CHANGE IN MALAPASCUA.
