Fundraiser for The Friends of Cavan Oncology

Friends of Cavan Oncology is a charity which supports the Oncology Unit at Cavan General Hospital. Their fundraising is used to make patients lives a little easier while undergoing cancer treatments. They have recently purchased an Orbis scalp cooler which helps prevent hair loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Paul McCorry, Chairperson of the Friends of Cavan Oncology, added: “As an organisation we are focused on the welfare of patients and best practice for staff in the oncology unit and after registering a request from nurses in the unit who identified the need for another machine, we granted the go-ahead and we are delighted that more patients will now be able to receive the treatment.

My father was diagnosed with cancer in December and has been receiving chemotherapy which I am pleased to say is working very well. I have entered the Chieveley Chase, a 5.7 mile off road race and my daughter Molly will be doing the mini version, running 1 mile in the village where we live On Saturday 26th April.

Our aim is to raise money for the unit through sponsorship to say thank you for all their care, support and encouragement over the past few months during this very difficult and intense course of treatment.
