I would like to dedicate this fundraising campaign to my dad, Antonio Caspe, who’s on the picture.

On 2016, doctors found kidney stones on my dad and they offered two options on how to treat it. It’s either through a process called shockwave (its a process to break kidney stones into small pieces that can more easily travel through the urinary tract and pass from the body) or through a major surgery (meaning he would need to be admitted in the hospital for a long period of time, which would require more money).

We opted for the shockwave treatment since it’s an out-patient procedure and he’ll still be able to do his usual activities.

The first session was not successful since the doctor said the stone was too big. It had only broken parts of the kidney stone. We saved enough money again to try another session, hoping that it would get rid all of it for the last time.

In less than a month, we were able to schedule another session for my dad’s shockwave procedure. And yet still, it did not do the job.

Unfortunately, the doctor did not mention anything to us about requiring a recuperating period for the kidney before another session is to be made.

Fast forward to late last year. My dad started to lose appetite, causing him to lose weight, he felt nauseous, and he mentioned about having a metallic taste on his mouth.

After seeing a doctor (from a different hospital now), he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. He went through series of emergency surgeries since his kidneys are not doing well already. Based from what the doctors mentioned, the layer of his kidneys had been greatly damaged by the shockwave procedure since there was not enough rest period between the 2 sessions that took place.

Now, my dad will be undergoing another operation for his right kidney to be removed since it’s not functioning anymore and it’s the cause of his recurring Urinary Tract Infection. If they give him more antibiotics, it would result in sepsis. And since his left kidney is also considered chronic, he will need to undergo hemodialysis already.

For the hemodialysis procedure, this is already considered a lifetime treatment. Which would require 3 sessions per week, and life expectancy of people undergoing this treatment vary from person to person. Another option is a kidney transplant.

For now, our family decided to opt for hemodialysis until we could raise enough funds for my father to undergo a kidney transplant, as well as other medical costs, and extended hospital stays. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my dad’s story. And may God bless each and everyone of you. To God be the glory!
