Like any other couple, my husband and I hoped and prayed for a child. But unlike most, our journey is full of sharp turns and nerve-racking moments. We waited 14 years to get married and 3 years to have a child. We had our own share of challenges for 17 years, but little did we know that 17 years is nothing compared to what we're experiencing now.

Getting pregnant for me was not easy. We sought help from several doctors just so I could bear a child. I took vitamins and medications for my ovary, ate healthy food, and exercised in order to prepare my body for pregnancy. We thought that with all those preparations, I'll get pregnant in a very short time but we were wrong. It took time because we had to wait 3 years.

God answered our prayer on the 9th of June last year. We found out that I was 2 months pregnant of our daughter Euna. It was an exciting time for us but we wanted to make sure that my pregnancy will be as smooth as possible. We went for regular check-ups so I could take prenatal medicine to ensure a safe pregnancy but unfortunately, I had an infection and my cervix began to dilate (dilate means my cervix is starting to open).

I followed the doctor's advice to be on bed rest most of the time and take antibiotics for my infection. It came to a point that I needed to undergo cervical pessary insertion (it helps keep the baby inside by closing the cervix) but still Euna came out prematurely at 32 weeks old.

She fought to survive at NICU for 15 days before we were able to take her home. We were already in debt to a few people after that because we were honestly not financially prepared for it. After 6 days of being discharged from NICU, Euna began to have high fever and refused to feed. We rushed her to the nearest public hospital because we didn't have money. It breaks my heart every time I say this, but we almost lost her that time. It was a very scary moment for us. She was diagnosed with Neonatal Sepsis Late Onset, an infection in the blood. After 7 days, we were discharged from the hospital, hoping that everything will go well this time. Our experience in the public hospital was very difficult and traumatizing for the lack of a better word. After 2 weeks, Euna had a high fever again so we visited the doctor. The antibiotic given to her somehow helped her feel better again. After 29 days or so, on March 8 to be exact, she began to have high fever again, and that time we decided to take a leap of faith and brought her to a private hospital. This time she was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis and Chronic Aspiration Pneumonia. Furthermore, after being checked by a neuro doctor, she was suspected to have Hydrocephalus, due to abnormalities seen in her anterior fontanel and head. Friday, March 18, after her cranial ultrasound, the neuro doctor confirmed that our dear Euna have Communicating Hydrocephalus which later on could develop to a worse case of Non-Communicating Hydrocephalus.

We felt devastated after hearing this news knowing that it is not curable. Right at that moment, we knew that Euna will live a difficult life and we will need to ask help from others in order to sustain her needs and minimize the effect of Hydrocephalus in her well-being. We were advised by the doctor to make Euna undergo VP Shunt Insertion surgery AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to minimize the possible damage in Euna's brain. In this procedure, a tube is inserted in her head, imbedded under her skin going to a space in her belly where excess fluids are better absorbed. This will minimize the pressure in her head and because it's a temporary solution, it needs to be replaced every 6 years, provided that it will not malfunction or cause any infection. Euna will have this shunt her whole life, it is very costly, and we really need your help.

With only my husband working everyday, our income is not enough to pay for our daughter's urgent surgery. As a parent, we are sincerely pleading for your help. Your kindness to my daughter will give her a chance to walk, talk and save her sweet smile. We love her so much and the excruciating pain of watching her suffer because of this illness is more than we can bear. We are racing against time. What will happen to her in the next few months will determine her future. We are hoping to raise the needed amount by the month of April so Euna can have her much needed surgery.

Please know that whoever you are, no matter how big or small your help will be, God will surely bless you seven times over. We will always pray for you.
