Fundraiser for Kate: A Warrior Mom’s Fight Against Cancer

Dear Families/Friends/Colleagues,

This Fundraiser is dedicated to our dear friend, Katherine "Kate" Oliveros. She’s a working mom and a single mom to 3 beautiful kids (ages 15, 12, and 3).

We have known Kate for more than half of our lives. Through these years, we have seen her fight her own battles, how she cried, hit rock bottom but still chose not to give up no matter what life throws at her. There's no doubt that she's is one of the strongest warriors we know.

It was just a year ago (July 2022) when she finally fulfilled one of her dreams. She graduated in Lyceum of the Philippines after 12 years and we couldn’t be more proud of her! On that same year prior to her graduation, she’s already been facing challenges since her 2 year old daughter got into an accident while his father has been hospitalized too due to health issues. It was a tough year for her indeed.

Three months after her graduation, she was rushed to the ER due to severe pelvic pain. This is the time when she also learned the news that will change her life forever. :( On that same day, she has been diagnosed with a rare type of Cervical Cancer (Stage 3B).

Shortly after, she underwent chemo and radiotherapy sessions as advised. Thankfully, she was able to use her Maxicare benefit for most of her sessions. But still, it wasn’t enough so we were able to to do a small fundraising campaign for her which she appreciated so much. We all thought and are happy that it was going well for her months after she finished all her sessions. She slowly started to get back on track and embrace her life again. All the tests looked okay and we are all hopeful that she's on her road to full recovery.

Not until a month ago (June 2023), when she suddenly had an on and off fever for days. She had to go back to hospital only to learn that her cancer is back and is now on Stage 4. Now, she needs to do all the chemo sessions all over again. We all know what the side effects are and what it can do to one’s body. We just couldn't imagine the pain she has to go through again physically and mentally :(

She has been fighting this battle for her 3 kids. As what she said in one of her posts, “I am their one and only” as she is a single mom and been providing for her kids since day 1. Her next sessions & other treatments are already scheduled this month but would need urgent funds (so she can pay in cash) since her Maxicare benefit limit has been reached.

As of July 4, 2023, Kate needs another blood transfusion because her Hemoglobin went down again. She was also advised not to go home and she needs to be confined. Her next chemo is also scheduled in a week or so.

We are humbly asking for your support and give with an open heart. We would appreciate if you can also share this fundraiser within your personal and professional networks. No amount is too small and this would definitely help and support her on her fight against cancer.
