Education for Sustainable Development
Youth Recognition
As we are entering a new decade we need to realize that it is only a matter of time that the youth will be taking over in leading the country. Hence, it is important for them to be properly educated, have critical thinking skills, acknowledge current issues and have the courage to give out their opinions in solving any controversy faced by the nation. For instance, Greta Thunberg is a 16 year old Swedish environmental activist on climate change whose campaigning has gained international recognition. Thunberg is known for her straightforward speaking manner, both to public and to political leaders and assemblies, in which she urges immediate action to address what she describes as the climate crisis. I take this as an opportunity for me to improve on multiple crucial skills in today's world such as critical thinking, diplomacy, networking, negotiation and also interpersonal skills.
Objective - Sustainable Development
The objective of the programme is to achieve Sustainable Development in Malaysia. According to the United Nation, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degredation, peace and justice. The 17 goals are interconnected and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by the year 2030.
The 17 Goals are as follows:
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Good Health and Well-Being
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Clean Water and Sanitation
- Affordable and Clean Energy
- Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Reduced Inequalities
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Responsible Consumption and Production
- Climate Action
- Life Below Water
- Life on Land
- Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- Partnerships
By having a better understanding of the SDGs, we can educate everyone and practise ways to achieve these goals starting with the students in UiTM Kedah.
EcoCampus
Other than that, by practising ways to achieve SDGs, UiTM Kedah will be awarded as the first campus to have 'EcoCampus' title by WWF. EcoCampus is an internantional award programme that guides all third level institutions on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of campus life.
Story
This is a fully self-funded programme, whereby the selected participant has to be fully responsible for their own expenses in order to particiapte, thus I am here to humbly seeking financial aid to lessen the total cost of my expenditure in the participation of this programme. The fund that I am trying to raise will cover the return flight tickets and the programme fee which includes visa application, accommodation, transportation and meals at a certain time. Any assistance that I can get will not only make my dream come true but will also give me the opportunity to represent the Malaysian youth. I have been wanting to participate in such programme, not only because it is a good exposure for my self-growth but I aspire to make my country proud as well. One of my goals in life is to change the mindset of the youth in Malaysia by coming up with creative ideas and something new and different that would make Malaysia a great nation.
It has been a privilege for me to be selected in this programme. Your small contribution can make a huge difference to others. It's beautiful how human's generosity could move significant impacts in the world we live in. I hope that you, kind-hearted people out there would support and be a part of my journey to Perth, Australia for the programme, Education for Sustainable Development.
Thank you.
