West Rand Youth Development was formulated through the recognition that majority of young people struggle to find jobs because they lack computer skills & money necessary to find jobs on the internet where there are thousands of vacancies every day. Its been 7 years since we have been operating. Throughout the years we have been fortunate enough to build a credible organization. We have established ourselves as key leaders of youth development in our community. A lot of young people have found themselves in a better position to cater for their own development through our existence.

We have been providing soft skills workshops for beneficiaries with the aim to help them by enhance their job hunting skills like; “job preparation”, “Time Management”, “Goal Setting”, and ”Leadership skills”. We also did a few yet impacting social programs namely: “Substance Abuse”, Teenage Pregnancy, “Gender based violence” amongst our successful endeavors was our job placements, we have managed, so far to place more than 300 in sustainable economic opportunities.

Through skills need assessment we managed to engage with the companies around the nearest industrial area and we were on the different skills field that the company looks to fill. Amongst the fields stated one of those that we found appealing was Forklifting. This was due to the number of young people with an interest in the skill. It is against this that we aim to train 10 beneficiaries in Forklift driving. The company also seeks to employ people in the field of retail, this will be complementary to another skills training we seek funding for i.e End user computer training. We therefore aim to train 150 beneficiaries in basic computer skills. These beneficiaries will be placed on the Mr Price Jumpstart Foundation programme giving them an opportunity to get placement at Mr Price retail stores. We also aim to train 25 young people in electrical engineering.

Our organisation prioritises skills development and we believe it to be one of the best solutions to the bad state of unemployment in our country.
