Funding for Journey to Pursue Master at OBU

Greetings!

My name is Riasky Widar Dewanti and I am from Indonesia. I have been accepted to the Master of Business Management and Entreprenuership at Oxford Brookes University for the academic year 2020. I get the opportunity to get a discount on tuition fees with a high GPA. To grab this opportunity, I have to complete my study fee on April 2020 by £15,400 or $21,000 and then get a discount afterwards.

I applied at Oxford Brookes University in the mid-2018 to apply for a full scholarship from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). But I was unlucky that year. I was eager to grab the study opportunity, but due to financial hardship in my family, I should postpone my study which is scheduled to begin in September 2019. Luckily, the university allowed me to postpone study for the next year.

I have been working towards my dream for more than a year. I started a full time job at a company engaged in public relations with the sole aim of saving money to the UK. Sadly, my income is still not enough to pay for tuition fee and pay a room in the student hall. My earnings are still not enough to cover the rent of a room located in student hall, which comes up to a staggering £6,384 or $8,339 per 38 weeks. While I was working, last year I tried to apply for LPDP again. Unexpectedly, the government implemented a new policy related to the scholarship, limiting majors and partner universities. And the university and the program I am aiming for were no longer on the scholarship list. I also could not postpone my study for the next year due to I had postponed it the previous year.

Unfortunately, it is extremely expensive to study in the United Kingdom. Besides to paying tuition fees, I also have to pay for a room in the student hall and textbook. Unluckily, for Indonesia student who are going to study in the UK do not have the opportunity to apply for student loan, both domestically and internationally. The loan program from the UK Government is also only given to UK/EU resident students. If there is private loan institution that can provide funding for international students, but they require a guarantor who is a British resident, is financially stable, has a house, and will be responsible for paying off the debt if I cannot pay it. And it seems impossible to find anyone who is willing to be the guarantor. Not to mention the interest rate that typically range between 10% to 36%.

I got my acceptance, worked a full time job for more than a year and I still need financial help to make a dream comes true. After I graduate, I will return to my country. My first short-run objective is to secure my job in a business consultant while doing business planning that I will build. I will use my experience in business planning and business strategy to develop my own business and provide employment opportunities to the Indonesian people.
