Pontinha - History in making.

- Do you want to be a part of an unique chance to wake up the forgotten Principiallity?

The Portuguese State and gouverment do not agree, and even though they have confirmed the Royal Charter of The Kings letter from 1903 - they are trying to remove his property and strip him for his leagal rights.

We have therefor established a fund - to raise enough Means for the costly fight with the state to keep Ponthina and this man's right.

Even on an International level.

All means raised will be used for courtfees and lawyers.

A bit about Ponthina:

Pontinha - Principado Ilhéu da Pontinha

- a little Island with a big history timeline.

The Principiality Of Pontinha - The forgotten Isle Of Principiallity

History

The small historic Volcanic Island - Pontinha has its history in common with Portugal dating back to 1419, when the Captains Jaoa Goncalves Zarko and Tristão Vaz, on behalf of Prince Henry the Navigator, landed on the rock. They first took refuge in a cave on Ilheu as Pontinha because they did not know if there were dangerous animals in Madeira, which was overgrown with forest. Here, they carved out stairs and built a shed, as one can see the remains of the day. There is also a Fort - Fort Saint Jose. ( Forte São José ) which was built in the mid- 1700s. This Fort once had a unique architecture.

Pontinha had early a weighty role as intermediaries between Europe and America. Especially Brazil played a major role. Pontinha was considered to be the gateway between Europe and America. With its exciting and important history, it is as if the rock towers up, as a reminder of what it once was - a humble little prayer not to be forgotten.

The island was all part of the Portugese territory where Madeira is the main island and the city of Funchal is the capital.

It has also been archaeological basis for excavations , and the story says that one can find one of Jesus Holy relegier buried and hidden away here. It has created a vids interest in the island.

Columbus also sailed to the island on their way to and from America. The island was a natural stop for seafarers and Navy ships where they could dock and purchased supplies and fresh water. Trade routes also went past the small Island.

Napoleon Bonaparte / Horation Nelson - During the Napoleonic Wars the British occupied Madeira and Pontinha. They needed a base in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, from where they could fight their opponents also at sea and Madeira was ideal. They used the Forte Sao Jose as the headquarters and prison in the British context and Sir Horatio Nelson even visited the island several times during the wars against Napoleon.

After that, the fort and the island was used as a staging post in the time of slavery, a place for the upper class and nobility to draw strength before it slowly became quiet around Pontinha. It is as if the island had a small hand incide several important roles through the history timeline.

In 1903, there are great changes in this affiliation. These had to do with the socio-economic negative development in Portugal up through the 1800s.

Especially during the last half, the view of - and the actual political conditions around the global changed. For both Spain and Portugal this resulted in deep economic consequences when the South American colonies freed themselves from colonial domination.

The changes in the country's economy was dramatic and other domestic political developments created great political tension. This led to great social unrest and increasing criticism and pressure on the Portuguese monarchy .

The country was twice domestic political bankruptcy. The first time 14 July 1892 and again 10 august 1902. This called for drastic changes.

Portugal was at that time ruled by H.M. King Carlos 1 of Portugal. His Majesty was also nicknamed the martyr when he was tragically assassinated 1 February 1908, shot by two assassins.

The social and economic problems and unrest, forced H.M. King Carlos I to address these before the attack. This was done by policy changes, and a subsequent dissolution of parliament.

There were also raised money, and here, among other island Pontinha into the picture. The island was sold to - Henriques de Freitas - in 1903, and Pontinha was declared a principality by Regalt Licence with H.M. King Carlos I of Portugal's seal.

Kong The letter stated that :

- " The Principality Pontinha where Fort Saint José stands on, shall remain sovereign " - regardless of their country of Portugal and therefor be a independent principality .

The original Royal Charter is today kept in the Volt/ Wolt of Tower of London.

In The king's letter and Patent, Portugal had now renounced its sovereignty over the small rocky island, and has been redone to a principality.

Although the island was a small fort , it is historically and on rocky forgotten. The Portuguese revolution contributed to the island was overlooked, and after monarchy was abolished 5 October 1910 was the principality and the importance maby ignored. But then was Pontinha already a Principiality.

After 1903, Pontinha no real significance , either economically or politically , and thus started raising fort to go into decline. Only in mid- twentieth century fed electricity and water to the island.

Today, the current owner of the rocky island and the Fort,

- H.S.H. Prince Dom Renato Barros I. Of Pontinha, requires that the island is released from Madeira and Portugal with its 200 nautical mils sea shelf, in line with the original Royal Charter and Licence from 1903.

For King Carlos I `s Regale letter of 1903, already then detached island from Portugal , and Pontinha can be said to be a" mini-state ".

This conflict is still unresolved if there realy is one. The relationship between Portugal and the Principality Pontinha are now presented in the EU and the UN. One would think this is obvious , since Pontinhas sovereignty was established in H.M. King Carlos 1 's letter of 1903, long before the Portuguese revolution and before the monarchy was abolished.
