Campaign Story
What you see above are the deadly rains that swept the nation of Timor-Leste this past Easter weekend, overwhelming and destroying the homes, institutions, and workplaces of thousands.
The city of Dili, Timor-Leste's capital has been subject to severe flash floods and landslides tearing through the whole country, causing mass destruction. Yet another casualty of this unrelenting natural disaster, the Canossian Daughters for Charity in Dili, (who run a primary and secondary girls' school), have found themselves in dire need of assistance.
The school has suffered hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses, setting the fair and equal education of Dili's young girls back considerably.
The entire campus has been ravaged, with the flood having damaged or entirely destroyed walls in four crucial buildings. Even the school chapel, a haven for students to pray and find their faith, has been devastated by the flood in much the same way.
Most devastatingly, the students have lost access to what is considered a commodity in many countries: technology. Their computers, and other technological equipment, were either lost or irreversibly damaged. The sisters estimate the damage to the technology alone to be more than $105,643 (USD). This is where your donation comes in: with just a few of your dollars, the Canossian Sisters in Dili can repair and replace the technology that is so vital for the young girls of Timor Leste. With your help, the Canossian Sisters in Dili can build this institution back, stronger and better than before.
Sister Guilhermina Marçal, Provincial Superior of the Canossian Sisters, has personally extended a request for aid and support from those who can give it. Sister Guilhermina Marçal and her sisters are doing God's work, each and every day, as they hand out the aid that keeps families and students in Dili fed.
Above, you can see the hectic distribution of these vital donations. But these expenses are wearing down the ability of the Canossian Sisters to both support the families and run the school - if they are not able to fund the repairs soon, the young girls of Dili might find themselves without an education.
