On June 2017, Rumah Penyayang Ulin Nuha was taken over by a group of volunteers, which was led by Puan Nazilah Idris after the public found out that the previous management had misused the donation funds. The children were abandoned during Ramadan month. When the hectic transition took place, their house (located in Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam, Malaysia) was only offered to be occupied for 5 year endowment usage which is due to expire in 2020. According to the Department of Social Welfare, this house deemed unacceptable to be inhibit as it is unsafe.
As a result, Puan Nazilah and the team searched for a temporary house that could accommodate approximately 20 occupants to be approved by the Department of Social Welfare. Unfortunately, the team was unable to find a house that can accommodate both the Ulin Nuha’s boys and girls due to budget and time constraints.
January 2018 marked the day that the occupants of Rumah Penyayang Ulin Nuha moved out from their Jalan Kebun home to a new location in Taman Sentosa, Klang. Two boys (who have reached puberty) was left in Jalan Kebun. The house in Taman Sentosa is a three story rented property which they will reside temporarily while waiting for Puan Nazilah and her team to build them a new home that can occupy all the children.
Our main aim for this project is to provide a conveniently cheaper alternative to a continuous consumable water supply for Rumah Penyayang Ulin Nuha at least for the next 5 years since their new home lack of drinkable water supply and the water pressure is low due to almost all the houses in that vicinity are using water pumps. Not to mention, the children also lack of reading materials, hence making them unable to fully utilize their time with educational activities.
We wanted the children to have a comfortable living space with sufficient supply of drinkable water and food. We also want to empower this children to go for higher education as this will elevate their social standing and living conditions as they mature into adulthood.
This campaign is a corporate social responsibility project created by Semester 8 students of Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons) Public Relations, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
