About Us
We are Noah and Kuba Bar-Din Anglin. We are 16 year old twins who share many common interests such as building computers, jazz piano, Mandarin Chinese, cooking, chemistry and physics. We are currently sophomores at Berkeley High School looking to advance our knowledge in electrical engineering and physics. We are currently taking AP Chemistry which we both thoroughly enjoy. We also make up two of the six pianists in our school's jazz program. We thought these interests would be unrelated but, after doing a lot of research we came across a project that integrates both of our main interests into one project.
The Project
Tesla coils are tubes wrapped in magnetic wire that when electric pulses are put through, produce sparks from the toroid (top). When different pulse rates of electricity are sent to the coil, different tones are produced form the sparks. Using a circuit board that converts an electric piano output to an electric pulse frequency, the tesla coil can produce music (like a speaker for the electric piano).
Why donate?
This project will teach us about a different way that music and physics are incorporated. Education is very important in our lives and building a musical tesla coil will give us some tools for better understanding of the things that fascinate us.
We are hoping to get $800 for the parts of the tesla coil. Any additional funding above the needed $800 will be awesome as it will go toward a second coil. With two coils we can harmonize tones and make in a sense, a small orchestra of Tesla coils. For an idea of what we are trying to accomplish, please click the youtube link above.
