My cousin Melissa, a sweet, caring and go lucky daughter, sister, cousin, niece aunt and granny to our family. For her friends she would always go the extra mile to be with them by any means possible. We as her family and friends would like to join hands and find ways to help her fight this battle with cancer.
In 2017 Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctor advised that one of her breast had to be removed. Her journey of fighting cancer started with 8 sessions of chemotherapy followed by surgery to remove both breast. She decided on removing both breast in an attempt to avoid reoccurrence of the cancer in the second breast. This was followed by breast reconstruction, 30 sessions of radiation and 18 sessions of hormonal therapy. The cancer went into remission until 2020.
In 2020 she started having severe headaches. The doctor took scans and found that there was a tumor on her brain. They did a biopsy and the results stated that it was not cancerous tumor. In the middle of 2020 the surgery for the removal of the tumor was done after delays due to the covid-19 pandemic and her contracting an infection. The tumor was again tested and it was found that indeed it was cancerous and she was living with an untreated cancerous tumor for the past +- 6 months. The doctor advised that it won't be possible to do surgery again and radiation was the best option. She went for the brain radiation and this caused her to lose part of her sight in her left eye, short memory and speech problems.
Currently she has to receive a Lucrin injection every 3 months and a Herceptin injection every 3 weeks. Apart from these injection, she also have medication she has to take this daily.
Her Doctors advised that she upgrade her medical aid and she's struggling to make the monthly payments and all the expenses that the medical aid do not cover. Anyone whom is willing and able to help us to raise funds in order to cover her medical bills and ensure that her medical aid are paid monthly it will be highly appreciated.
Thank you so very much.
