Funding for Fuel- Summer’s First Road Trip

Hello.

WHO AM I?

My name is Summer Drum, and I am a freshman elementary education major with a minor in music. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, where everyone knows one another and you go through school with the same group of kids. I have never traveled away from the East Coast, and in recent years, I have developed a huge case of wanderlust. I want to explore places I've never been, immerse myself in culture, try new things, meet incredible people, and find myself along the way.

WHAT AM I DOING?

I am planning on taking a road trip with a friend during the summer. I want to explore the country I live in, yet know so little about. In order to keep costs low, I plan on traveling extremely cost-efficiently: Staying in hostels and Couchsurfing along the way, exploring the beauty of nature instead of spending a majority of my money on tourist attractions, and taking pictures and memories back with me instead of costly souvenirs. I am unsure where exactly I want to go, and how long I want my trip to be; instead, I want to really embrace the idea of uncertainty and adventure and figure it out as I go.

HOW AM I GOING TO DO IT?

I am going to use my breaks home from school to babysit and work a part-time job in order to raise money for my trip, but as a college student, I also desperately need that money I earn for school itself. That's why I'm creating this fundraiser. If you can give anything to go towards gas, food, and accomodations along the way, I will be forever grateful. I will even send you a postcard or picture from a city I visit on my trip.

This will be my first real opportunity to go out on my own, face the world, leave the comfort and familiarity of home behind, and hit the road for a while. If there's any way you can help me make my journey a reality, I would be so incredibly appreciative.
