Studying abroad is usually an opportunity that only the creative and artistic degree-based students get to experience. However, for a Computer Science degree seeking student, like myself, I also strive to get the opportunity to study abroad over the summer. With the “French Language and Quebecois Culture in Canada” study abroad program that I have chosen, I would get the chance to immerse myself into the French culture in Canada, while also getting credit towards my French minor. In my past experiences, I have always loved travelling to new places, seeing other cultures that I am not yet accustomed to, and getting the opportunity to meet new people from different parts of the world. So far, I have only travelled to about half of the states, but the different cultures in the United States alone is vast, which is beautiful to witness. One of the only reasons that I have not been able to travel to more places, like many people, is because of the money involved.
Although I am a Computer Science major, I feel that being able to speak another language is very important, not only for my future career, but it helps me understand more of the world. I have chosen this study abroad program specifically because it will be a great stepping stone for my future endeavors in France, and I will be with many other like-minded students. I believe that I will benefit from my study abroad program because it will eliminate the language barrier between people whose native language is French and other students like me. Another beneficial outcome will be earning credits over the summer so that I am ahead in my minor program for the next semester. Learning a new language is never easy, but the benefits are endless, and I intend on taking every opportunity that I can get.
