We are starting this fundraiser for Ethan Lawson who is a gifted cellist. He is taking part in numerous music competitions and festivals this year and the aim of this campaign is to raise the funds to pay for his accompanist and entrance fees. We are asking for people to please open their hearts to a young musician who is passionate about music and is planning to pursue a career in classical music.

Ethan Lawson (17 years) started playing piano and cello at the age of 7. He was on Unisa’s roll of honor for piano at age 7. He loved the cello and started to excel at it. Ethan has been a cello student of Rina Schutte since the age of 12. He also plays guitar, writes music and songs.
Ethan comes from a musical family. His 3 sisters plays violin, cello and clarinet. He teaches his two younger sisters piano and music theory.
He is currently studying to do his cello grade 8 Unisa and Royal school exams and his grade 6 Unisa theory in 2018. He has completed his Unisa cello grade 7 in 2016 with distinction and Unisa theory with distinction.
He is the Section leader of the cello section in the Cape Philharmonic youth orchestra and member of the CPYO quartet made up of the 4 section leaders of the CPYO.
Ethan was one of the 21 participants of the National Youth Music Competition 2017
He received a cum laude at the Stellenbosch Eistedfod 2016 and won the string category prize, the Leonore Ehlers and the Annmarie van die Westhuizen trophies in 2017.
He participated in Pieter Kooij music Competition 2016, but because of taking ill in 2017 he was unable to participate in 2017.
He received the Best Progress Trophies 2012, 2016 and 2017 at Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre
Ethan had Master classes with Annmarie van der Westhuizen in 2016 and 2017, master classes with Saeun Thorsteinsdóttir 2017. Has received ensemble master classes from Siwoo Kim, Daniel Rowland, Meena Bhasin, Thomas Carroll, Peter Martens and Saeunn Thorsteinsdóttir.
Ethan was selected to participate in the Hugo Lambrechts concerto festival 2017. He became seriously ill in 2017 and was unfortunately not able to play at the concerto festival because he was hospitalized. However he performed his concerto at the Hugo Lambrechts Christmas concert 2017, conducted by Pavel Petrenko. His solo concerto with the Hugo Lambrechts symphony orchestra was Broadcasted on fine music radio.
He was a member of the Hugo Lambrechts Senior String Orchestra and the Hugo Lambrechts string quartet since 2016 directed by Valentina Koleva Vorster (winners of the Stellenbosch eisteddfod).
He is the section leader of the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra 2018 Directed by Liam Burden (he was part of the cello section in 2016 and the orchestra was the winners in their category of the international festival of advent and Christmas music in Bratislava)
He took part for the first time in Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival 2017 where he played in the Festival Concert Orchestra conducted by Joost Smeets. He hopes to participate again this year and audition for the Symphony orchestra.
