Maybe I am not the most deserving of your generosity. But I hope you can still give time to know my story and my humble appeal for help.

I am 42 years old with no secure future. And I have six children. That’s right - six. Three grown kids from a failed marriage and three adorable little ones from my fiancé.

And I only have three thousand pesos in my bank account. Money not for myself, but for the needs of my children in the coming days.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably asking yourself – “Oh my, what is this guy doing?”

Well, I used to have a pretty good life. A stable BPO job. Above average income. A house and a car. But a string of poor, regrettable decisions and inevitable circumstances led to my eventual failure both as a person and a professional. My marriage ended horribly. I kept jumping from one job to another thinking solely of higher pay instead of stability and longevity. I lost my home, and for a time, lived in my car before eventually losing it too. We had to squeeze in to my parents’ modest home so me and my family can have a roof under our heads.

But when 2020 started, a high-potential job in China could’ve given me the break that I so desperately longed for. I thought this was going to be it. But then Covid-19 happened, so that went down the drain really fast.

So, this is where I am now. I have not had a job since 2016. Probably because I’m quite old for my industry and nobody wants my obsolete skills. Hundreds of jobs applications, not a single one showed a serious amount of interest. In order to survive, I’ve relied mostly on the charitable and “lending” hearts of family and friends. But I always knew I won’t be able to sustain this kind of needy and dependent life. I do not want to.

For a good amount of time now, YouTube has been a daily routine in my family’s life. It’s the one source of entertainment where we all come together to get something positive out of. Whether it be learning about history or something new, laughing at comedic situations, listening to good music, or smiling over cute pets and kids. There’s something in it for everyone. One day, my fiancé and I were talking and she mentioned that she has one friend who created a YouTube channel and started earning from her videos recently. My fiancé jokingly said that I should start my own channel – that this could be my calling. I laughed briefly, but then my thoughts started taking it seriously. You see, I’ve always been a loyal fan of computer games, ever since my childhood. Huge thanks to my brother in Heaven who was my sole influence on it. Whether it be on the personal computer or console games like Sega and Nintendo. I’ve always had love for it, especially games of the past. Retro games to be precise. So I told myself, why not combine profession and play, and put it into one passion? I want to talk about games of old. Showcase them. I know there are already a lot of creators out there already doing it. But I think I can grow my own audience, using my own style. I was thinking, if I stay patient and consistent, maybe I can make a career out of this? A career that can support my family. A means to earn from my hard work and creativity. Cause they’re my only reason for this new found energy and motivation. Love for my fiancé and my children.

I have actually started my channel and have published two videos. My humble appeal to you is to get me more quickly started. To increase my productivity in video creation dramatically. Because time is not on my side, age-wise and creator competitive-space. A modest room to build as my own tiny workspace. An acceptably modern video recording and editing computer equipment. Right now, I am using a computer with 9-year old hardware specifications. It takes a longer amount to get editing and video capturing/recording done because it is quite slow. It took me almost three hours per video just to get it exported and uploaded. I use pirated software because I can’t afford legitimate ones. The hard drive is only 160gb in size and I’m running out of space on it. And to top it all, the computer isn’t even mine. I am just borrowing it since I do not own one. I do my work in a cramped hallway where noise and distractions are a regular occurrence. I can not do voice-over recording because I do not have the equipment for it nor do I have the quite environment to sustain it. I feel that talking on my videos is the best way for me to get personal with my audience. My first two videos were all text-based in explaining my content. I may not be able to captivate my potential audience if I continue to do this approach. I may end up failing in this endeavor.

It's true, I may not be like a lot of fundraisers whose situations are way worse than mine or whose intentions are more meaningful. But this is very personal for me. My family's lives are at stake. I don't care about my life, but I do for theirs. So this is my humble and truthful appeal to you. This may be my last chance to turn things around in my life. My family's lives. They deserve a future full of hope.
