Funding basic neccesseties for street children in Bukoba, Tanzania

We are HEKIMA, a non-profit organization committed to leading the fight against child exploitation, where we safeguard vulnerable children and adolescents' rights within the country.

Here in Bukoba, there are about 200 children living on the streets, who come from low-income and often broken families and now have to make a living on the streets themselves. Instead of going to school and growing up in a safe home, these children sleep at bus stops and spend the day collecting tin and bottles from garbage dumps, which they can trade for a small fee to buy themselves something to eat. HEKIMA's goal is to counteract this problem by actively supporting the children through counseling and learning opportunities. We also work to reintegrate them into their families and enable them to attend school. When they are older, we teach them entrepreneurial skills and connect them with local potential employers.

In the past moths HEKIMA started to built a community daycare center for street children. We provide clean water to wash yourself and clothes, electricity and one free meal a day, other than that we try to structure the day of the kids with small teaching sessions and games. The daycare center is a save space where the children learn to retake responsibilities learn new life skills and look for opportunities for their future.
