Here is a small sample from one of the chapters.  Enjoy!

Dale was tied to a chair that was bolted to the ground.  The only thing in the room besides the guard and the chair was a mouse hole and a window.  In the short time that Dale had been a prisoner he had acquired several new bruises and a cigarette burn on his right arm. “I don’t know what you’re trying… to get out of me… but it’s not going to… work.” Dale managed to say in-between breaths.

The guard smiled “I don’t want anything out of you…it’s just boring here and you’re fun to play with.  If you want, I could ask you questions.” He then slapped Dale twice, grinned and sarcastically asked “What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?” another few slaps “Color?” he then proceeded to step on his foot “How loud can you scream?” after saying that he put his weight on his foot.

Dale sat there, teeth clenched, not making a sound other than the heavy breathing and occasional grunt. The guard was upset that he wasn’t making any noise so he grabbed his gun by the barrel raised it in the air “I said how loud can you scream?” The guard swung his arm down as hard as he could on Dales right hand, the second it made impact Dale let out a shrill cry.

The guard was pleased with this outcome. He took the boot off Dale’s foot and leaned in to get close to his face. “When I get out of this chair,” Dale said with a piercing glare “Your dead.”

The guard let out a chuckle “You and what army?” Dale glanced at the window and smiled “I don’t need an army, just one person.”

The guard dropped his smile “I think you’ll find your friend is incapacitated.”

“I’m not talking about the runt.” Dale then signaled to the window. A light shinned threw the window getting brighter every second. As soon as the noise of the car engine could be heard the guard dived for cover, and Dale shut his eyes tightly and turned away bracing for impact.

To their surprise the building didn’t shake, the only reason they knew the car hit was a crashing sound and smoke. Dale opened his eyes to see a broken window and the wall with a huge dent and several cracks in it. Either Burt wasn’t driving fast enough or the wall was thicker than it looked, either way it was safe to assume the plan failed. The guard stood up with a puzzled look on his face, once he realized what had happened, his face slowly changed from confused to a smile, then laughter. Hands on his stomach and barely being able to stand, the guard could not stop himself from laughing. Eventually he calmed himself down enough to say “Nice plan but next time it might be better to break through the wall and save the prisoner instead of killing yourself in a car accident.” No sooner had he said this than a bullet flew through his stomach. No longer smiling he turned to look out a hole wear the window used to be, there he saw Burt standing outside of a wrecked Impala, holding a gun.

Smiling Burt said “Seatbelt.” The guard fell to the ground trying to hold his stomach shut with his hands.

Burt limped into the room via the window and untied Dale. Burt still wearing a very pleased expression “So what’d you think of my rescue? I myself found it smashing.” Then getting a serious look asked, “You all in one piece?”

Dale, after getting his hands untied, checked to make sure nothing was broken and looking quite relieved, “It would appear so.”  He tried getting up but the second he put weight on his right hand he fell back in the chair.

“You alright?”

Dale looked at his hand then at Burt “Peachy.”

“Here”, Burt said while reaching into his pocket, “This will help.” Burt pulled out a wrist strap out of a side pocket.

Dale put it on looking very confused “Why would you have this.”

Burt looked at the ground, “let’s just say being old aint all it’s cracked up to be” and he started wrapping up Dales right hand. “Don’t suppose you can still shoot?”

Dale got up, this time without using his right hand, “Il be fine, I’m a lefty… Where’s Kyle?”

Burt made eye contact with Dale, “Figured he would be with you.” Dale mumbled something under his breath then motioned for a weapon; Burt handed him a knife.  Dale was disappointed he didn’t get a gun but continued on without complaint. “

Me and Kyle got-” Burt cut him off “Kyle and I”.  Dale rolled his eyes and opened the door.  He checked to see if it was clear then went left and signaled for Burt to follow. They both left the room.  A few seconds later Dale came back in and looked at the guard lying on the ground. It was clear he wasn’t going to make it, dale walked up to him crouched down and got real close to his face. Dale took out his knife “You know what I’m gonna do with this knife?” The guard not talking shook his head no. Dale smiled put the knife away and stood up “Nothing.” He then raised his right foot and brought it crashing down on the  guards crotch. The guard fell over in pain as Dale left the room in a fairly pleasant mood and caught up with Burt. “As I was saying. Kyle and I got separated, I got the freak and the others went with Kyle. They probably thought they would get a better show out of him because he’s younger.” After saying this Dale and Burt stopped, looked at each other, then broke into a sprint down the hallway. Burt a little out of breath “If…we hurry…he might still be alive.”

Running down the hallway looking for Kyle “Wait” Dale said as he came to a stop “Do you here that?” They paused listening, they heard laughter coming from somewhere down a corridor. They followed the laughter to a door with no window much like the one Dale was being held in. Dale reached for the handle but Burt stopped him. “We don’t even know if Kyle’s in there, and we sure don’t want any unnecessary trouble.” Burt said in a whisper. They listened closely, through the laughter they heard Kyle pleading “No, no NO. You don’t have to do this, we-we can make a deal.” Dale and Burt exchanged glances and got ready to breach. They could hear one of the guards stop laughing “Listen boy, no more deals, you had your chance and now the games up. This ends no-“

Dale opened the door…knife ready…giving Burt a clean line of sight to the rest of the room. The guards and Kyle stared, frozen. Dale and Burt stared back in shock not believing what they were seeing. To their amassment Kyle was not being tortured, he wasn’t even tied up. He was sitting down playing a game of sorry with two guards. While everyone was still staring Kyle slowly backed away from the guards to the table wear the gear had been placed. Very silently he took two Tasers from the table and crawled back to the guards “I’m really sorry about this.” The guards turned as Kyle tasered them both in the neck. “It really is for the best.

Burt lowered his weapon and tried to speak but couldn’t seem to form a sentence. “… What?” Kyle smiled pridefully, “It’s a long story. I told them about the garage, we laughed, turns out we have a lot in common.”

Dale was still in disbelief but unlike Burt he could form a sentence “It hasn’t even been 30 minutes.”

Kyle started blushing “I know.”

“I was tortured!” Dale said, exasperated.

“I’m sorry.” Kyle said awkwardly.

“And I drove an Impala into a wall.” Burt added.

Kyle stood up and looked impatient “Look this is getting old and we are still on a mission so we should go, there are guns on the table.” Kyle grabbed a pistol from the equipment table, then on his way out stumbled over one of the unconscious guards “sorry.” He mumbled as left the room, and started walking down the hall.

Dale grabbed a pistol as well with his left hand paused, then sympathetically asked Burt “I’m the leader, right?”

Burt picked up a clip and put it in his pocket, he looked up at Dale a bit confused, paused “Course you are.” Then patting Dale on the shoulder and left the room to catch up with Kyle.

Dale just stood there for a second “I hate that kid.” Then left to meet up with the others.
