The West African Institute for Legal Aid (WAILA) is the not-for-profit organization with the purpose of providing free Legal services to eligible individuals or groups, in both criminal and civil cases. As a unique regional and global Non-Governmental Organization that is defending liberty and pursuing justice for economically and socially disadvantaged people in West Africa. Our services include: Providing Legal Information and Education, Legal Advice and Assistance, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and/or Legal Representation.
Waila has played a major role in the contribution to the development of a fair and equitable justice system which addresses the legal needs of the community and improves access to justice in West Africa.
The Proposal Review and grant Committee of the 9th Worldwide Conference of the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), has accepted the conference paper proposal and selected two staff ofThe West African Institute for Legal Aid (WAILA)to present their paper at the 9th Worldwide Global Alliance for Justice Conference to be held in Mexico from the 5th through the 12th of December 2017, on the campuses of Instituto Tecnol6gico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Puebla and Universidad Aut6noma of Tlaxcala in Tlaxcalal.They will present on the topic "THE NEED FOR THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF CLINICAL LEGAL EDUCATION. ` ` A CASE STUDY OF THE AFRICAN CONTINENT"
GAJE is a GLOBAL ALLIANCE of persons committed to achieving JUSTICE through EDUCATION. GAJE has sponsored eight worldwide conferences since it was formed in 1999, with delegates at each conference representing every region of the world.GAJE conferences aimed at promoting the exchange of information and experience among persons involved in Justice Education around the world.Clinical education of law students is a key component of justice education, but GAJE also works to advance other forms of socially relevant legal education involving practicing lawyers, judges, non-governmental organizations, and the lay public.
