Campaign Story
My mother/ nanay Lena is an educator. She has been a public school teacher all her life. A happy and loved person with a positive outlook. We did not have so much in life growing up but we're happy. She is our main source of strength in the family. She's a great mother and wife to tatay Boy. They fondly call each other LAB U which means I LOVE YOU... They're both great parents to their 3 kids and 8 grandchildren.
Last July 2020 at the height of pandemic my mother was rushed to the hospital as she suffered stroke. Thankfully it was not COVID related. It was a life and death situation for her and we felt so down as we cannot go home to help take care of her due to travel restrictions. At the same time she was diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney failure. My mother was 4 weeks in and out of the ICU. She got better and was dicharged after 1 month. We incurred hospital bills of close to 1 million pesos excluding out of hospital expenses. She did not have any medical insurance at that time and we did not have much but we did everything to sustain and to save her. Since she was discharged, she's been on 2x a week dailysis, physical therapy and on continued medication. We felt blessed to spend more time with her as she started to recover months after.
I am youngest of 3 siblings. I mainly help my parents for their medical needs. I am a single parent to my 16 year old son, this allowed me to support them with what I can (not all their needs though). My siblings also are of great help but they have their own families now and challenges of their own. But this recent challenge was quite a burden to us financially in this difficult time.
Few days after the devastating typhoon Odette, my mother's health deterioated and we rushed her again to the hospital and she was again confined in the ICU. We kept praying for healing but it was time for her to leave. She passed away on New Year's eve. It was sad but we looked at the brighter side that she will no longer be in pain and it's God's will, who we are to question...
God Bless everyone...
