Background

Single parents often juggle their responsibility of cooking, cleaning, marketing, preparing their children for schools and classes etc. As such, they have to deal with time poverty and children from single parent families often don't have the luxury of having a family outing in the face of this. Thus together with Elden and Ryan we want to plan an education camp for these children so that they can have fun and learn in the process.

Why?

As scouts, we want to use our knowledge and experience to give back to the community to plan and to organize a camp for children from single parent families. The camp, slated for December 2017, will be in Jelutong Campsite, Pulau Ubin- an ideal location for camping and for the activities that we will be doing.

Through a survey we conducted, we found that kids would love

• Cycling
• Campfire
• Outdoor Cooking
• Games

to be part of a camp. As such we have planned an overnight camp with the abovementioned activities. Apart from providing fun, these activities will also add value to the children's life. Outdoor cooking teaches them basic cooking and the campfire provides an opportunity and platform for the children to share their stories and bond with us. In addition, we will be providing basic first aid lessons and other lessons that will suit their needs.

Where do the funds go?

We've done the planning and we are only a small step away from executing this service project. Here is where you come in. As much as we try to reduce the cost of this project by using our own camp equipment, there is still a considerable costs in transportation, food, etc. Here is the rough breakdown:
