The Potato Project
The Potato Project is an upcoming journalistic (actual journalistic) project to discuss current issues from a different perspective, for and by Latinos all over the world.
The goal is to present the actual face of Latin America, our culture, our struggle to become independent countries, and our constant fight against authoritarianism from every side of the political spectrum.
Do you turn on TV and see the likes of Bernie Sanders praising Castro? Have you been told "you don't know real communism" by a white American leftist? Or how Latinos are "natural Democrat voters"? Well, it's time to listen to the many Latin American people who have been direct victim of Communism and listen to what they have to say about that and how our lives have been directly influenced by being victims of different authoritarian leaders and their corruption and how we've managed to overcome it and keep on living with a smile.
WHAT WOULD THE PROJECT BE ABOUT
We will discuss stories of Latin America that show the real face of our people, not the face shown by the Democratic Party, we'll show how we're hard working people who love their culture and isn't up for scraps.
We also try to feature actual works made by latin Americans: paintings, music, films, different from mainstream media and their exploitative narratives. We will try to discuss what our culture is and where it comes from and how we've influenced the world and how the world has influenced us. The goal of this project is to share our culture with the world and learn from it.
We will also try to present people from all over the world who are also in the fight to preserve their cultures in freedom and conservatism so we can all learn from each other and feel we're not alone on this fight.
WHY IS IT CALLED POTATO PROJECT
Recently, the word "potato" has been used to show something that is low quality. But the Potato was the biggest gift America made to the world. Potato saved many lives in Europe, Asia, and Africa. There is nothing "low quality" about the potato, and it's time to clean potato's name. Yes, the name of the project can change, but I can't promise it will be not potatoish.
I also happen to like potatoes a lot.
HOW MUCH IS NEEDED?
This is a one-player band so far. Me, the person in charge (whose identity will be, in the meantime, protected) will be in charge of everything until the project grows and more people will be involved if it's needed. I will be in charge of
- media creation
- web maintenance
And everything will be declared accordingly to my country's requirements so you will always know how we're investing on the project and what's to come.
For that, I've calculate that only $2000 will be needed, enough to set up a good server for one year and buy equipment. The first interviews and articles will be made from my city, to save expenses, and I will eventually move around. But it's better to start with a more realistic goal. That's why I need a good equipment so I can work at and from home.
The website is gonna get a paywall to protect my job for the main articles. Those who donate more than $5 will have a permanent pass, $2 will have a pass for one year. Donations bigger than $8 will have not only a permanent pass, but will buy a pass from someone from their choice or, anyone from LatAm who cannot buy a subscription. After that, we'll rely on Patreon or similar with an only US$1 fee for everybody. Minor articles will be free for everybody.
—Because of geographic limitations, I can only accept money donated through PayPal, If you can donate, please, do through Paypal alone—
