Fund Raiser for Caring for Cambodia Project

For the past 5 years, we have been reinvesting our profits to support and organise at least 4 non-profit/social impact projects every year.

This year, to continue to meet our goal of creating social change, one wall at a time, we are conducting a Community Mural Painting at Aranh Sakor CFC High School, Siem Reap, Cambodia, for Caring for Cambodia (CFC). The painting will be primarily done by the students of Tanglin Trust International School and CFC. This will be our first overseas Social Impact project in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and we need your support.

This is also the first time we are doing a crowdfunding campaign and we are curious to see how involved the community is with our projects.

Who is Mural Lingo?

Founded in 2014, we are a multi-platform studio that specialises in the curation of murals and social happenings in Singapore. We are working towards the intersection of technology and the arts, creating immersive artistic experiences by using a combination of cutting edge technology and captivating mural paintings.

We are driven by our mission to contribute to the growth of a more compassionate, caring, connected and dynamic civil society through the use of art. This is achieved through our mural paintings that reflect the cultural and social thought and practices of our country's inhabitants.

Through our understanding of art's potential to transform society, we have developed activities that strive to mould our culture and environment. Our services include Private Commissions, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, Live Events, Social Impact projects and Educational Workshops.

Who is Caring for Cambodia?

Caring for Cambodia (CFC) is a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable organisation that ensures a high-quality education for 6,600 children in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

They aim to improve educational services and keep students in school and improve their educational outcomes. CFC strives to make sure that every Cambodian child attends school from preschool to 12th grade, and to graduate with the skills required for higher education or for obtaining meaningful employment.

Ultimately, CFC is removing barriers to learning. Their schools are safe, modern and technologically equipped. They train their teachers, provide clean and child-friendly classrooms, and provide essentials for their health and welfare. They build Cambodian leadership to guide and sustain the schools so that generations of CFC graduates can reach their highest potential and make valuable contributions to their community.

Why are we doing this?

Initially, we were asked to auction paintings of ours to fund the projects and initiatives for CFC. But as a collective, we feel that we are able to do better by sharing our mural painting expertise, which is not a skill that every artist has, to the world.

Since this is an overseas project, we have added expenses to account for. This is why we are opening this to the community for support.

This project is a crucial step towards utilising the arts to create a positive change in society. It not only serves as a platform for students to hone their creativity and have fun but also plays an intrinsic role in healing the trauma caused by the tragic circumstances of Cambodia’s past.

Additionally, collective participation in the arts through this initiative has the ability to encourage the establishment of stronger relationships and a shared sense of togetherness and achievement.

Why does this matter?

Cambodia has suffered enough. It is a country that is deeply scarred by mass genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 – 1979, a tragedy that killed an estimated 1.7 million people.

The country’s educated class and its professionals were targeted in the genocide, leaving the nation and future generations to survive and rebuild from the ground up.

CFC is educating a generation of Cambodian children today, to make a difference for Cambodia’s tomorrow.

What will your contributions support?

Your generous contributions will support the team in bringing this project to fruition.

The project involves 5 artists from Mural Lingo and 20 students from Tanglin Trust International School and Caring for Cambodia.

Our goal of $1500 is only 22% of the entire project value of $6860.

Here is the breakdown of the project:

Flight ticket (Jetstar Asia) from Singapore to Siem Reap, Cambodia - $300 x 5 people = $1500

Artists Fees - $12 x 20hrs x 4 people = $960

Art Director Fees = $1000

Documentation Fees = $800

Design Fees = $600

Accommodation for 3 nights = $800

Transport and logistics = $400

The total value of the project that Mural Lingo is paying for is $6060.

On top of that, Tanglin Trust international School will be covering the costs of the materials (paints, brushes, sheets) of $800.

We have facilitated many Social Impact, Corporate Social Responsibility and Community mural projects locally. Therefore, this project is a huge and important step for us to be able to benefit other communities on an international level by doing what we do.

Even though we are a small independent organisation operating without any support from the government or patrons, we dare to make conscious choices to help in any form that we can.

With your support, we can make a change in the world through creating art that acts as a tool to raise awareness, build communication and encourage critical dialogue on important social and global issues.
