Norfolk Island is a beautiful little paradise in the South Pacific which has found itself in a terrible economic downturn due in part to the Global Financial Crisis but also to a lack of tourists from our two prime destinations, Australia and New Zealand. We require approximately 1000 tourists a week to sustain ourselves and we currently are receiving approximately 3-400.
The funds raised from this project will go towards funding an education program (travelling roadshow) around Australia and New Zealand for 6 months, designed to educate the general population and travel partners about this beautiful and unique destination. We believe that there is a simple lack of knowledge about what we have to offer and we believe the first step to correcting this is to engage people in a 'conversation' about the island.
The islands permanent population has also steadily declined and we would like to increase that by at least 1000 people. To do this we need to get the word out to potential immigrants about the natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle of this piece of paradise.
Our roadshow will consist of two people travelling across the major urban and rural areas of Australia and New Zealand setting up display booths, handing out information, creating networks, answering questions and offering support to people who would like to visit and/or live on Norfolk Island. Two passionate people living and breathing everything Norfolk. The project will be completely transparent with daily updates and photos on all forms of social media, and interaction with the general public, highlighting successes and targeting areas for growth.
We believe that if this project is successful this island can once again become completely self sufficient instead of being a burden on the Australian taxpayer and relying on meagre handouts from the Australian government. We are a proud and hard working island who will do for ourselves as much as we can.
We intend to spend the funds on transport (livery painted station wagon or camper) fuel and accommodation. Promotional materials will be done at cost and we can utilise existing stocks. Visual display's, virtual tours etc can be done utilising existing laptops and screens. We intend to visit as many shopping centres, travel agents and other partners in a way that has never been done before. Setting up interactive displays, encouraging social media, sitting in with and training travel consultants responsible for selling the destination. The possibilities are endless.
