Fund for Mozart

Update posted by Alicia Yoong On Feb 11, 2018

It’s been awhile I’ve updated about Mozart. Been very hectic the whole January. Today I finally get to visit Mozart and will be discharging him tomorrow officially from TAD after almost 4 months of hospitalisation. He’ll be shifted to a medical boarding from tomorrow onwards. Mozart’s wound is healing. Slowly but surely. It’s a very long tiring battle but as long as he gets to come home.

He still needs twice a day wound cleaning. His antibiotics dropped from 3 to just 1. Weight has been maintaining. This fight was worth it.

Till date he has incurred ~15k of medical cost inclusive of surgery. I am also finding other ways to raise funds on top of my full time job and part time studies. It’s not easy but I’ll do my best. So help me to help Mozart. Thank u.

I’m sorry to start off with a bad news in the morning of the 1st day of the year.

Mozart’s surgery was a successful one. It was a 5 hour long surgery, but the “skin grafting” or “flap” did not work for him. It broke off during christmas. However, the wound looks small. The flap gave the wound borrowed some time for it to heal. Knowing it’s the last straw for him, Dr Kris Koh is also sadden about the state he’s in. But we could only pray very hard that the wound would heal by its own.

And because he has been through a lot, he have quite a bit of weight that it became quite critical for him to gain weight. Because he might not survive going below 1kg. The vets also tried to drop an antibiotic to help him gain weight but he got a fever instead. They have got no choice but to put him back on the antibiotics. They are currently feeding him every 4 hourly. His appetite has also picked up and he can finished an entire bowl of vegetables now!

As you all know, Mozart has been hospitalised since 20th Nov 2017. Everyday’s hospitalisation cost about ~$200+ to sum it up per week of stay cost about ~$1000. Till date his medical bill is at ~$10,000. Its not cheap but I am also doing my best to pay off bit by bit whenever I can. I also had thought of putting him down once because watching him trying his best hurts alot. But his defied so many odds, and I choose to respect him and let him put up his fight. But in order for me to do so, I would need a favour from all who’s following this post and share around this campaign once again.

Once again, I would like to thanks all in advance for the blessing towards Mozart. Really appreciate it a lot.

Yes, he deserves every chance to continue his fight. Brave boi !!!

Mozart is going home for the night today. He’ll be due for another surgery tomorrow. Which will help to cover his wound. There’s are a few posibilities for tomorrow.

1. The wound is too big to be operated on. And will be euthanize under GA.

2. Vet will do something similar to skin grafting. To create a flap to close up his wound. Its a very slim chance that it’ll work but we’ll give it a go anyway. Not because of selfishness but, Mozart has been eating quite well and we’re taking this opportunity to help him before it gets worst.

3. We can opt not to do this surgery, but it’ll be a slow death for him. And IF the infection eats into his blood vessel, he would still have to be euthanize.

4. The surgery is sucessful however, the flap doesn’t work as well, and we too have to euthanize him.

Honestly, I have a very hard time deciding on this surgey. And I have to decide to place a bet on Mozart’s life. And the fact is, I will never be able to let him go. I have been brawling my eyes out. Missing him every single time when I saw that empty spot. But there’s aren’t much option I could take. Everytime I’m at the vet, I watched him trying his best to eat. It pains me and I kept asking myself. Is there anything else I could help him.

Some may think, $7000 (excluding surgery have already placed a deposit of $2800 for the balance of the donation after merchants deduction) for a vet fee is it worth it? And yes I don’t have that cash to pay off all these. But my wish, is just to bring him back home and maybe with him living up till the life span of a rabbit. I have always been grateful to those whom have donated and I am not taking any donation for granted. Even so, I may even go around borrowing just to make sure I can do whatever it takes to help him and slowly pay them off.

Mozart is too precious to me and to everyone who cares. Help me to help him. Any donation with any amount counts as a blessing to him for tomorrow’s surgery. Thank you in advance!

Been awhile since I've last updated. Mozart is still maintaining. Eating well for legs but not on pellets. His wound is not improving or getting worst. He's on alternate laser treatment and twice daily wound cleaning and changing of gauze drenched with honey. Spoke to Dr Koh today, was told to prepare for the worst if his wound starts to rot. He has been a very good strong boy. Honestly, I'm not sure am I selfish him to keep him going like this event he's eating well. I wish he could come home soon.

What matters is you’re helping do his best. Take heart and stay strong for him.

Mozart’s op has been brought forward a day earlier. The wound was worst than what we assumed it was. The ongoing infection was actually right behind his eyes which is non-detectable unless he undergo CT scan. The defect is massive, that Dr Tsai actually have to open a hole infront of his eye area so we could clean up his wound easier. At the same time, she also placed a gauze layered with manuka honey to help with the healing process.

She mentioned the chances of healing is quite slim in his condition. But we will see how he’ll cope before making a decision to switch him to a ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ case.

Mozart is at home for the day as there’s no night nurse today. He’ll be having his surgery on tuesday to help clean up his wound. I may have found another abscess on his lower jaw today but will confirm with the vets tomorrow. Till date his hospitalisation bill is at ~$3300. Funds will be coming in tomorrow and I’ll clear off whatever outstanding tomorrow.

His wound is not great. The vet is pending his surgery for next week to help him heal. His blood count today is at 26%. Its stable enough to stop doing a daily checking of his blood. So they are doing alternate days checking.

Vet denied him of his blueberries because the seeds are getting stucked in his wound. Mozart’s is trying his best to eat on his own because he knows I am holding back tears at the thought of losing him. I am trying to be positive, for him and for the people who have donated and rooting for him.

Hi all followers. An update on Mozart.

The vet heard some heart murmurs from Mozart’s heart. So they suggested to do a scan on his heart to see if its ok or just side effect from the drip. He is looking better now as compared previously. The wound is also undergoing laser treatment and also looks like its healing. His blood count dropped by a little today, its at 23%. They will continue to monitor his blood & wound daily. But he’s will continue to be hospitalised. Until then.

Mozart blood count is at 25%. Dr Tsai said might be discharge on thurs. but best to go back everyday to clean his wound. this morning they clean his wound there’s a little bleeding. but its a positive news cause there’s still blood supply there. He cant be on drip cause his ears are all bruised. But they are giving him sub cut. His poo is still not ideal but hoping it’ll be better when he goes home. But he’s stable as of now. Surgery will be KIV till his wound gets better and him more stable
