My name is Rūta Vyšniauskaitė and I am an sixteen-year old student from Vilnius, Lithuania. Although I am only sixteen it has been an old dream of mine to be an exchange student. And it is finally coming true.
Last year (2014/2015) I participated in an exchange program's "ExCel" selection process for an exchange year in the US. I did pretty good, I went all the way to the final, but unfortunately, I wasn't lucky then. Because I really wanted to win, this year I applied for the exchange semester to the international educational exchange organization YFU (Youth for Understanding), sadly - there is no selection for this program and the dream of mine costs a lot - 6200 euro.
YFU is a network of over 50 independent national organizations worldwide, YFU representatives work together to advance learning across cultures. Within each country's culture, YFU organizations subscribe to and operate under a common set of principles and standards that aim to facilitate cooperation and harmony. Each year, YFU exchanges approximately 4,500 students worldwide.
I choose Germany for my exchange semester, because I study German at school and I think it is a very hard, but really beautiful and necessary language. Also, I've to Germany a few times and it is beautiful - I want to see more of it! I want to "live in the culture", I want to meet new people, I want to increase my German skills, I want to see another environment. I believe, that exchange will definitely give me once-in-a-lifetime experience, give me more necessary characteristics to help me start my life. It will make go out of my comfort zone, make me do thing I thought I would never do, make a stronger person, give me self-confidence, which I am sometimes running out of ;)) Also, exchange will be great for making my beautiful home Lithuania more popular in foreign countries.:)))
What makes me happy the most - I will encourage people to go to exchange, just like I did. I will tell them my experience and help them make their dreams and goals come true. I strongly believe, that any exchange student will tell you the same!:)
Thank you, for wasting those few minutes of your time reading about my fund and I would be really thrilled to receive your donations and make my dream come true. :)
