Hello from Greece!

This is Natalia, I'm 29 years old and I live in Athens. I have studied Psychology and right now I'm doing my training on Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. It is a long way before I can work as psychotherapist independently so right now I work as a waitress. Until I can work on my own I do volunteer work and I study a lot.

Buying a house was not a priority until now. My aunt Eleni who lives in Crete has this tiny semi-basement studio in the center of Athens and she has let me stay here for almost 5 years now!! Anyone who knows her, says she is a saint because she helps anyone she can. I offered more than once to pay at least a minimum symbolic rent, but every time I mentioned it she started crying, saying she lets me stay here as she would do with her own children and she expects nothing in return. Unfortunatelly, in the crisis of Greece there are so many things that one cannot predict and so she is now obliged to sell the house I'm living in, in order to help one of her sons so that he can start his own bakery in Crete. She is very sad that I have to leave and I'm even more frustrated that in the next 4-5 months I may have nowhere to go.

This is our current home!

My parents moved to the country 10 years ago. My father's cookie bussiness closed and the city was way too expensive for them. With their last money they took a drastic desicion and so they opened a small cafe in a nice litlle village. It turned out to have a ridiculous turnover that each year dropped even more. My father tried to keep the cafe for as long as I was going to college. Back in Athens they left a mortaged apartment but over the years they accepted the fact that it belongs to the bank. Now they live from my mother's pention which keeps dropping every now and then and there is no chance their apartment could be saved. When I found about GoGetFunding.com it crossed my mind to raise a campaign to save the house. I thought about it and I realised that there is no chance I could raise 300,000 Euros. As much as I believe in the kidness of strangers I am realistic. Although still not easy, I dare to give this campaign a try to raise 20,000 Euros with which I could buy my very own tiny house.

Renting a house is not an option right now. Renting a house in Greece may be a bit different from other countries. Rents may seem lower but they are insane compared to salaries and the condition of the houses. Looking at house ads makes you either laugh or cry. Most houses are left to God's mercy and still people try to make the most out of them so they can survive in the crisis. Bills are not included when renting a house and that is a whole other issue. Even if I could find a descent house I still could not afford it. My salary is 500Euros per month and the rent for a studio is more than 400Euros per month (utilities excluded). My training costs 200 Euros per month. Right now I pay everything myself and my father helps me with some bills when he can. Moreover, working as a waitress is not a stable work here. There are no contracts to make you feel safe in a job and so you can be kicked out at any time with no time to look for another job and no compentation. Renting a house under these circumstances would be too risky, almost impossible. What I dream about is to have my very own corner in this world where none can kick me out and do my best to make it cozy and beautiful for me and my cat, Freud!

Sometimes I think about it and I feel so silly making this step, raising such a fund, because I always thought that great things only happen to others. On the other hand, I see the options I'll have once my aunt sells the house which are none. So you are my only hope. Without you it's impossible and I'm trapped.

This is pretty much it. You will find more details in the updates.

You can add one brick on this home! Any donation, big or tiny, is highly appreciated because it's something I didn't have before!

Whenever you visit Greece, Freud and I will be more than thrilled to meet you in person and offer you a cup of hot coffee in our own little home.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story! It really means a lot. Even if you cannot afford a donation please share this campaign with your friends! It will really make a difference!

Sincerely,
Freud & Nat.
