It all started with a craigslist ad. I was searching craigslist one day looking for ads to barter for skills so me and my partner could get a vehicle. We have been homeless up until this point and thanks to hard work and dumb luck we finally were able to land an apartment. Whilst looking for some sort of transportation, the ad struck me "hydroponic indoor food growing kit, looking for those witha passion for indoor urban farming and mycology". So... I followed up with the ad. Me and my husbands background are varied, he is a former Rabbit breeder and Herbalist who has been working minimum wage jobs in hopes of one day owning a piece of land to start his business again. I am a former military, physics major from SMU who has also been working minimum wage in order to pay off student loans and gain enough "experience" to work in my field. I am 21 yrs old and he is 38. We are not your typical couple. From the day we met we have both been intent on eventually starting our own farm... and this insignificant craigslist post gave me a spark of inspiration. What if we could do it in our own home??

Later that day I gave the fellow a phone call during which he said he has been farming mycology for the local markets since he was my age and that he wanted to pass down his set up for a lower fee. Me and my husband vetted him and discussed this further and he made us a deal. If we could raise 1500 for the kit, he would teach us all he knows. And seeing his hydroponics system can make up to 70 pounds of food a week, and is well worth over 5500 dollars, we were not going to turn him down.

Since we lack transportation, its incredibly difficult to walk along the hwy to find work in this area. The local transit system is in its early stages and we cannot truly afford to pay almost taxi fare prices to get around to a min wage job. And for other familys below the poverty line, something like this could help them not only feed their families, it could potentialy change their lives.

So now we ask you, the benevolent person reading this... Will you help us get from minimum wage and start farming indoors so that we can help other familys in this area and in houston get out financial bondage from investing time and energy to places who only seek to abuse the lower class? Places like McDonalds and Walmart who's owners who do not know what it is like to br homeless and want to pay the minimum to college educated workers seeking to survive?

Be the change this world needs! Help us start over! We will not disappoint you.

In fact when you donate 100 dollars or more we will send you one of the trees we created to pay our bills. We are artisans and we handmake as much as we possibly can.
