Campaign Story
Josue Merced-Reyes, was just released from the hospital and
needs long term recovery.
He suffered from an acute incarcerated hernia, a tear in his abdominal muscles,
pushed out the small intestine. This is not good, because the belly muscle is
still there and can choke the intestine. First with an intestinal block, but
then also a circulatory block that can cause the intestine to die off and
become gangrenous.
Josue seemed to have had the intestinal block already on Thursday. He was
throwing up and could hold no food. He went to the hospital and the doctors
didn’t check the hernia and gave him Demerol. He felt much better and went
home. But then he started to feel really sick on Saturday with the hernia
swelling to the size of a breast.
Once back in the hospital the surgeon on duty immediately saw the graveness of
the situation and decided to operate then and there, saving Josue’s life. He
would not have survived a gangrenous infection of his guts.
He is getting better but of course after the stomach ulcers and esophagus
emergencies this year which kept him from travel and work this year he didn’t
need another gut punch.
Josue cannot work and should not work for the next months. We, his friends,
want to enable him to live worry free and concentrate on his healing. The fund
should help cover medical expenses and supplement Josue's and Marilina’s
household to have them live worry free for a while and heal.
Help spread the word!
