Friends for Mary Lou

Mary Lou Sanftenberg, a clerk in legal services, recently suffered a Brain Aneurysm, which resulted in brain surgery and extensive medical costs.

Mary Lou had been off for a period of time due to other medical reasons (incurring extensive medical costs), and has had an extended length of time with a reduced income level on LTD. For anyone who has ever gone on Long Term Disability, or on assistance you would understand the financial impact this can have trying to make ends meet on 55 % of your salary.

Although our benefit plan covers a large portion of our medical costs, these do not cover the full costs and will not help to covered the extensive costs that she requires in prescriptions to ensure her medical stability at this time. These medical costs may be incurred by her to prevent seizures and bleeding in her brain. These costs are anticipated to be incurred by Mary Lou indefinitely.

In addition to these medications, she also requires extensive physiotherapy costs, that she is unsure she will be able to continue despite the medical recommendations to receive. The financial impact of these medical costs and her reduced income (55%) has left her in a position of hardship and leaves her in a position of not being able to afford the medical services and costs she needs as these far exceed all benefit coverages that she would be entitled to.
