As many of you know, heartbreak occurred last week in Myanmar when our beloved friend Phil Blackwood was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison with hard labor.
For those of us that know Phil, we are beyond devastated with the decision that has been made. For those of you that don't know Phil but have shown your support regardless, we would like to say thank you.
There is only so much that we can do for Phil and his family at this time, and we are humbled with the amount of support that has already been passed his way. This being said, there is still a long road ahead for both Phil and his family, and I'd like to contribute in the way of fundraising to help his wife and baby girl during this difficult time, and hopefully toward the building lawyer fees as the appeal process begins.
Phil Blackwood would do anything for anyone, and we should take it upon ourselves to help Phil - our favorite hard-working, kind-hearted, Hurricane-loving Kiwi - in any way possible. With this, I ask for your donation, even the smallest amount will go a long way.
I've had the fortunate pleasure of meeting Phil through the wonderful world of sport. Coming to Myanmar, not knowing a soul, I found my way to rugby, where Phil embraced me with open arms. One of the greatest things about being part of the club is that you become a part of another family. Please help our family during this time of need.
If you cannot donate, then I ask you to simply keep spreading the word about Phil to those in your circle. A Facebook page has recently been created to open our appeal to the wider community, not just family and friends. Please take a moment to "like" it - https://www.facebook.com/freephilblackwood
There is also a petition that you can sign at -

Thank you for your time,
Sammy

Phil is a great guy. Before the embassy opened, he was the unofficial Kiwi ambassador, always there with a smile and a pint, regardless of whether the ABs were winning or losing. (luckily, the latter was a rare occurrence) What has happened to Phil, and by extension his family, is not on. We have to fight it, and thanks to the organisers for putting this together. Kia kaha Phil. We won''t give up on you mate.
