„People with disabilities also have the right to non-formal education“

Prior to the start of the campaign, we conducted a pilot initiative as part of which we developed an analysis of policies and measures in the employment of persons with disabilities, analysis of funding models for training for PWD, and conducted digital marketing trainings for 8 unemployed PWDs from municipalities of Žepče, Maglaj, Zavidovići and city of Zenica. We are currently working on establishing a fund for financing trainings for unemployed PWDs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the first activities of establishing the fund is creating a campaign and raising funds for organizing trainings for additional 10 unemployed persons from 5 municipalities in BiH. To accomplish this we need $6,000. Can we accomplish this together? We believe we can!

Who are we?

We are a team that wants to improve the position of people with disabilities by strengthening their knowledge and skills demanded by the labor market.

A survey conducted in January 2020, which focused on the career affinities of people with disabilities, showed the need to organize IT trainings for people with disabilities in order to increase their opportunities for employment.

Based on the results of the analysis, the Development Agency Žepče and the Citizens’ Association Nešto Više, in cooperation with the MarketMakers project, are implementing intermediation aimed at increasing the employment of people with disabilities (PWD) by organizing IT trainings and employment mediation between unemployed PWDs and potential employers.

Who are we implementing this initiative for?

The initiative is intended to organize free of charge training modules for 10 unemployed persons with disabilities from 5 municipalities in BiH.

Why Persons with disabilities?

Persons with disabilities belong to one of the most vulnerable groups in many aspects of society. Institutions for schooling and education are not adapted to them; public transport is not adapted to them, those cause difficulties in education. Computer technologies and the possibility of working remotely are very suitable for strengthening the business skills of people with disabilities, which directly leads to their inclusion in society and the labor market.

Society as a whole, and particularly in rural communities, often views PWDs as persons dependent on state assistance, and by no means focuses on developing their abilities that can ensure that PWDs are independent persons. Technological advances facilitate education and support their integration into society, and this should be utilized.

Therefore, through the implementation of this initiative we want to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Idea — what we plan to do?

We want to raise $6,000. to organize trainings in the IT sector (web and graphic design, digital marketing.) for the needs of 10 unemployed persons with disabilities from 5 municipalities in BiH.

This intermediation intends to become a permanent support for PWDs and strengthen their competencies in order to become an easier-to-employ category, and it encompasses three phases:

Phase 1: Organizing trainings in the field of marketing, web design, etc.

-Organizing certified trainings in the field of web and graphic design for 5 persons with disabilities from BiH, online or in the premises of the Center for Business Competences Žepče, depending on the situation with the Corona Virus.

- Organizing certified trainings in the field of digital marketing for 5 persons with disabilities from BiH, online or in the premises of the Center for Business Competences Žepče, depending on the situation with the Corona Virus.

Phase 2: Finding potential employers who will hire trainees

After successfully raising funds and the implementing trainings, RAŽ and "Nešto Više" will work on affirming the employer to enable work engagement for PWDs who pass the training and thus give them the opportunity to show and cash in on their knowledge and skills. Also, RAŽ and "Nešto Više" will work on strengthening PWDs self-confidence in presenting themselves to employers throughout the implementation of trainings.

Phase 3: Establishing a fund to finance informal trainings for PWDs

Work will be done on the establishment of a fund for financing informal trainings, trainings that cannot be paid for from the program of Vocational Rehabilitation Funds that finance formal trainings. The process of establishing the fund includes local self-government units, cantonal and entity ministries and funds for professional rehabilitation and employment of PWDs. After the initial meetings, all institutions are interested in participating in the creation of a model for the establishment of a PWD fund.

How can you help us?

The initiative implemented thus far by RAŽ and „Nešto Više“ has been financially supported by the Market Mekers project, the municipalities of Žepče, Maglaj and Zavidovići. Without this support, we would not have been able to conduct analyzes and hold trainings in the field of digital marketing. However, in order to organize and expand the trainings to new beneficiaries and municipalities, we need additional funds.

These include the cost of hiring experts to implement the trainings, approximately $489.50 per person, the cost of preparing the literature, the cost of the platform commission, the extraordinary cost. If the training is organized in the premises of the Center of Business Competences Žepče, which consists of the RAŽ department, the agency will bear the costs of using the equipment and space.
