My sister Marites Bendita that resides in Koronadal City, South Cotabato Philippines was taken to the hospital on September 8, 2021, by ambulance due to contraction of the COVID Delta variant virus. On the same day, she was directly admitted to ICU on hi-flow oxygen, and on the next day, she was intubated and hooked to the ventilator. She’s on antibiotics and several other medications which are not locally available. We contacted all our friends and families if they can get in touch with someone that knows where we can get the said medications.

Due to high cases of Covid in the Philippines, there is a shortage of medications and hospital supplies. Hospital beds are all occupied, we had a hard time finding an available ICU bed for her; knowing that her oxygen saturation level is at 48-50% during that time. She was told to stay in the hallway of the hospital with supplement oxygen while waiting for good news. A couple of hours later we received a call that there’s an available ICU bed in the town next to us.

The next day, her primary physician advised and ordered hemoperfusion or hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is a method of filtering the blood to remove toxins. Dialysis is done since covid-19 can lead to serious kidney-related issues. She needs to be transferred to another hospital that has a dialysis center and ICU bed to perform this procedure.

My sister Marites is a caring, loving, and generous sister to us and to our parents. She supports all our goals and needs. Right now she’s fighting for her life, and unfortunately, she does not have medical insurance, so all of the things that are needed for the hospitalization are personally funded and of course also with the help of my other siblings. However, it’s not enough that’s why we are here trying to reach all kind-hearted people for help. All of your donations will be used to help and assist my sister with her fight against Covid-19 and that includes hospital bills, medications, and other medical supplies. Any amount is appreciated and we thank you from our hearts in advance for your love, kindness, generosity, and prayers.
