The exhibition of “Free Hong Kong” originates from the voices of Hongkongers who have been undergoing a series of protests against a proposed amendment of the extradition bill, which would allow extradition to mainland China. After around six months, the movement has evolved into something bigger and more complicated. The team of “Free Hong Kong” is a group of patriotic Hongkongers who would like to bring the voice of Hong Kong to different parts of the world, expressing our determination to fight for democracy and a better future of our home city.
In the touring exhibition, we wish to explain to the public how the extradition law affects the rule of law in Hong Kong, as well as some significant events during the movement. We wish to show the world how Hongkongers fight for freedom and democracy, and what we have been through since the beginning of the movement. We would like to show that, the Chinese Communist Party threatens not only freedoms in Hong Kong, but humanity and democracy everywhere.

Touring exhibition in Europe
Since September, we have presented the exhibition in 3 German cities and co-hosted two sharing sessions (for more details, please check out the information below, or go to our Facebook page). To extend our reach to other parts of Europe, we have been in contact with other European cities to find exhibition spaces. To do that, we need more funds to keep this tour going. We have been in touch with spaces in other European cities such as Brussels (Belgium) and Copenhagen (Denmark). We hope to reach Kiev in December or January, to connect with Ukrainians who fought for freedom in the Maiden Revolution five years ago.
Our aim is to raise HKD265,000 (around 30,000 Euros, donation currency would be Hong Kong Dollars - HKD). Your donation will be used in:
- Rental fee of exhibition spaces (around EUR 12,000)
- Printing and shipping fee of exhibition materials (around EUR 4,000)
- Travel and accommodation fee for our volunteers (around EUR 8,000)
- Promotion of the exhibition - mainly for posters, leaflets and Facebook advertisement (around EUR 3,000)
- Enhancement and maintenance of exhibition content (around EUR 3,000)
Any left over funds will be donated to Spark Alliance, a non-profit fund devoted to helping arrested protesters and activists.
Using a first-person narrative, the exhibition summarizes significant events during the progression of the movement (such as 21st July, 31st August, 1st October, events will be continuously updated). We hope to provide a more comprehensive picture of the movement, in the forms of crowd funding ads in international newspapers, news clips etc., and last but not least, a Lennon wall for all to write messages as a gesture of solidarity and participation in the ongoing movement. In upcoming exhibitions we wish to add more content, like argot and slogans used in the movement, and virtual reality (VR) equipment to provide a more immersive experience for the audience.
Through the exhibition, we hope to evoke reflection on the impacts of this movement, and the Chinese Communist Party, on the world, and eventually, turn more attention to the events in Hong Kong.
