From the 1st of May 2020 all citizens have to wear a mask in South Africa.
Great idea but most people cant afford to feed themselves or their families right now.
If people have not been working how can they afford to buy masks? Many companies are not providing their staff with masks yet. They simply cant find them.
I decided to make masks initially wanted to sell it but realized the need, so decided to rather make to give away for free.
I am collecting because its become very difficult to continue this venture financially and physically alone.
Funds will be used for:
- Material / Cloth (if you have and like to donate and in the JHB area let me know i can collect)
- Thin elastic (it is easier and quicker to attach, or as an alternative we make straps)
- Cotton / Thread
- Food parcels (When we hand out masks we are asked for food, I give what I can but any extra donations will be used to give extra.)
Id like to get a full time cutter to help me with the load, ideally pay them for a few days but that is a pipe dream, depending on the donations.
Also, I would like to get more people to sew in the area, so if anybody else wants to help get all of South Africa masked and protected please let me know.
If you want us to post your company logo to say thanks or retweet or post on LinkedIN please let me know.
I have distributed 250 cloth masks so far, made from material I bought before the lock down.
THE GOAL FOR NOW IS 2000 MASKS more if we can :)
I asked for material in my social groups, only one old lady offered me a bag of unworn skirts - Anything helps. Very kind of her to offer!
