I wish to introduce Guardian Sight Providers Organization (G.S.P) to you and further seek assistance in our coming cooperative effort to restore and eliminate avoidable blindness in the four selected slums in Kenya, Nairobi.  G.S.P Organization is a registered National NGO by the NGO Coordination board, with a Registration No. O.P.218/051/12-0505/8459 and Pin No. P051507553M. We believe in optimization of resources, collaboration, networking and providing participation development.  It is estimated that more than 3.5 million Kenyans are blind. Of the 3.5 million people living with blindness 80% are poor living in slums. Approximately (47.8%) are affected by cataract, glaucoma (12.3%), refractive error (8.7%) and age related macular degeneration (6.7%). Other causes include corneal opacity (5.1%), diabetic retinopathy (4.8%), childhood blindness (3.9%), trachoma (3.6%), and onchocerciasis (0.8%) (WHO, 2010). From the above statistic the majority are mothers and children who suffer most. It is estimated that 85% of blindness in Kenya is curable. Due to malnutrition, inadequate eye health care facilities and education services, poor water quality and a lack of sanitation in the slums, therefore increases the high incidence of eye disease. It is therefore worrying that trends on eye diseases is a big contribution to the poverty level as it renders affected person who are already challenged to carry out important tasks and even children find it difficult to access education facilities as specialized schools are few.  In response to the increasing burden of chronic eye disease, there is need to coordinate and have a well moved eye medical research on prevention and management in an effort to map services and policies to control trachoma, glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors. This unique and innovative platform will help combat to fight avoidable blindness in children and elderly, therefore securing a future with full visual function for all in the slums.        With huge challenges of poverty in the slums, it is therefore prudent that G.S.P in partnership with you through your donation, to help addresses the matter through eye medical camp with a view of lowering the impact of partial or total blindness and as well securing the destiny of the affected - mother and childrens living - in slums to continue with daily activities. And having vast experience team in the subject matter, we request you to join us  to carry out the advocacy.   Output - Increased awareness on the prevention of avoidable eye related problems in selected areas; Reduced cases of partial and total blindness in the selected areas; Maintained and strengthened G.S.P’s collaboration with Member States and the partners in Elimination of Avoidable Blindness in the constituency; Encouraged integration, cooperation and solidarity between counties, government, partners in the areas of prevention and care for blindness and visual impairment . Target Nairobi slum areas = Kibera slum, Kiambiu slum,  Mathare slum  Mukuru kwa njenga slum - The targeted areas have high cases of eye related problems and will offer a good starting point in carrying out the research and advocacy since they are focal points for other regions within the country.   Services to be offered - free, Screening, counseling and management of eye problems Screening, counseling and management of sugars and high blood pressure Screening, counseling and management of HIV/AIDs Counseling and management of drug abuse by the youths Community education on primary eye care, HIV/AIDs, diabetic and High blood pressure Management of all screened eye diseases by prescribing free ophthalmic drugs, glasses Surgeries for all cataract diagnosed patients To reach the above mentioned services, G.s.p will involve other organizations like Kenya medical training college -  department of Nursing, Optometry, Public health and University of Nairobi department of Medicine, Counseling, psychology and others in offering their services to the community, through educating the youths on substance abuse and alcoholism and as well keep the environment clean through community participation.   Thank you so much for supporting our course and we will be hamble to invite you to be part of the team on the ground.
