Ever watch National Geographic's hit TV show "LOCKED UP ABROAD"?
It is a re-enactment of a person being detained or arrested in a foreign country. We watch the drama unfold in the comfort and safety of our living rooms. It's easy to forget that what we are watching really happened. Someone had to survive that story before it could be told. What if an episode from “LOCKED UP ABROAD” was about a loved one or someone you know? Remember that what we watch on TV is edited for content, so the details are so much worse, beyond our belief! Now in reality, you DO know someone locked up abroad, and he is in desperate need of your help. Chris Garner has spent the last 42 months in Panama's infamous LA JOYA prison for a simple possession charge. His fight for freedom with a corrupt Panamanian government has left him penniless. The American Embassy, although fully aware of the discrimination routinely practiced by Panamanian authorities, is unable to intervene on behalf of any American citizen. In the jungle, at La Joya, prisoners are left to struggle for their survival in conditions beyond description; despite the protests of many human rights groups. In the overcrowded prison, there is no running water to bathe or do laundry. The water offered is often contaminated and drinking it is unthinkable. When a dinner meal is provided, the food is frequently inedible. A prisoner’s breakfast consists of a hard roll. Crooked guards allow some prisoners to buy food and bottled water at inflated prices, but those like Chris who have no possessions or money left often go without. Should Chris become ill or get injured, there is no medical staff available to treat him. The Panamanian prison system does not provide simple hygiene items like toothpaste, soap, or toilet paper. Prisoners are forced to buy whatever they need, or they go without. Chris has worn the same three shirts and two pairs of shorts since he was arrested on Labor Day 2009, over 42 months ago, 1,307 days, or 3 years and 6 months and counting.
Chris Garner Needs US!!!
He has lost his freedom, he is hungry, he has no money and very little hope. As you finish reading this, imagine yourself or a loved one in the same situation. Consider what measures you would take to ease their suffering and try to help get them home? We have a chance to make a real difference in the quality of life for Chris, who is being unjustly held in unthinkable conditions.
Please, give whatever amount you can and ask your family and friends to do the same. All donations are secure through PAYPAL and will help pay his living expenses and attorney’s fees.
Thank you.
