I'm transgender and I am planning to have top surgery (chest masculinisation) early in 2017.
My gender identity is genderqueer and non-binary but also masculine: I feel very uncomfortable with a large chest that gives people misleading signals about who I am. I deal with gender dysphoria in relation to my chest every day. I can't flatten my chest with a binder as my hypermobility means that moves my spine out of line and leads to widespread nerve pain.
I'm using private gender services because I have run out of ability to cope with the waiting time involved in NHS gender services. For example, there's an eight-month wait between my first and second appointments; I expect a similar wait between second and third appointments, and then 9-12 months wait for surgery.
I'm in a good position to approach surgery now: I'm fit; I have a supportive employer as well as family and friends and my life is stable. I'd like to think the same will be true in a couple of years, but I'm not willing to take the chance and to keep the rest of my life on hold while I wait to find out.
I recently guest-blogged about being out as transgender at work at Neutrois Nonsense.
I would like to raise some cash to reduce the amount I have to borrow for this. The total price of surgery and consultations is about £7,000 and I expect to have £3,000 of my own savings to put towards it by the time of surgery.
I'm happy for people to make straightforward donations (using the donate button over there --->), and I'm also offering the following rewards to those who'd like them.
Donation of or over ...
£1: a thank-you email from me.
£5: A postcard of thanks, signed by me.
£20: a keyring, or higher-resolution electronic (.jpg) copies of the pictures.
£60: choice of white cotton t-shirt or tote bag
£100: a copy of Purple Prose, signed by me
For each reward above £5, you can choose one of these three pictures: squirrel, jackdaw or bluetit - or leave it up to me to choose for you. You can choose to donate more than the minimum level for the reward you want.
Choose a reward by clicking the relevant button over there --->
I may ask for additional postage costs to send items out of the UK.
I'll send rewards out about once a month, to allow me to bundle orders for efficiency of postage.
Thanks in advance to anyone who's able to contribute to this. If this raises more money than I need, I will pass the extra on to other people's trans surgery funds and/or to Gendered Intelligence, who support young trans people in the UK.
