Fred Kossam’s family support campaign

Dear friends of the adaptation community and friends of the agriculture family,

We all received the very sad news of the Fred Kossam's sudden death. He has been a role model for many of us in setting the agenda for Least Developed and African Countries in the run-up to and after the Paris Climate Agreement engaging with all parties, organisations and stakeholder for the hope of a better tomorrow. He has been working endless hours to be a change maker with many days away from his family. He left far too young. On his skype profile is says:"Poverty is the only thing that motivates in my life". Fred's contributions to the LDC agenda and to the adaptation community are so many, that it is difficult to isolate any one. For us he was truly a national adaptation plan champion, always pushing himself and others to put more action and energy into climate change adaptation.

Fred leaves behind a wife and three young kids in Malawi. The youngest one is just 8 months old.

This campaign, we are setting up today, in our private capacities seeks to call for a financial contribution to his wife and three kids.

We shall act as his "social network", the many of us he knew over years. He has been our peer, a person who isnt shy to speak the truth for a real cause, a person who stands up for integrity. He was key to contributing to the COP 23 Koronivia joint work on agriculture decision and its roadmap at SB 48. As we cant take away the deep sadness and sorrow, the only thing we can do is to give in gratitude and admiration to Fred's dedication and work to the climate family, a financial contribution to ease out the coming months for his wife and kids having to learn to live with his absence.

Thank you Fred for having been part of this community. You will be sorely missed.
