Hey all, I'm a part of the first and only Robotics team in Hong Kong and am leading the coding team this year (as I have last year and the year before). The Robotics Competition takes place around April, and our team is flying to New York for the competition to compete in Long Island. I have not gone along with the team in the past two years for the competition and, since this is my last year with the team, I think it would be a great opportunity for me to experience to the world of FRC first-hand in New York. Me being physically present at the competition venue also means I can troubleshoot problems first-hand without needing to go through communication software. Plus the 12 hour time zone won't be as brutal.
It's quite a bit of money (for the flight and hotels, primarily) but I really believe this experience, potentially my last opportunity to do so is super worthwhile, and is a great path to further develop teamwork skills and spirit.
By supporting me, even a little bit, you are supporting our school's Robotics Team, and by extension representing Hong Kong.
What is FRC? Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.”
Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship.
