Frankie’s Three Peak Challenge

Why Help?  Frankie suddenly fell ill in January 2013, in a space of 4 hours he went from being a normal, wild, happy wee toddler to being floppy & paralysed!! Once transferred from a local hospital to Edinbugh's Royal Hospital for Sick Kids Frankie underwent a series of tests one being an MRI scan which revealed he had brain swelling & lesions on his spinal cord. He was diagnosed with ADEM, Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis , a rare autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system attacks the brain tissue and damages the protective covering around the nerve fibres.  Frankie was paralysed from the neck down, was on IV steroids, antibiotics,painkillers & tube feeds. He underwent lots of intense physiotherapy & he regained movement in his left arm.... After 2 months in hospital Frankie was allowed home with a wheelchair & support equipment.

This past year has been spent helping Frankie recover... But to give him the best possible chance of recovery he needs to have specialised intense regular physiotherapy, and The Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments is the place to offer this.....

The Family need to fund this themselves.... And so on the 5th June 2014 .... Stewart Haddow, Jordan & Sam Laird, Alex Beattie, David Gibb & Johnny Mills are to do The Three Peaks Challenge, which is to climb the 3 highest peaks in Britain (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowden) within 24 hours. Bus Driver Iain Laird is hoping on no traffic jams!!!! They hope to raise as much as they can to help in Frankie's Rehabilitation from ADEM & help him walk again.
